Bianchi Frames
Hi, does anyone have any knowledge or opinions on the newer Bianchi steel frames? I'm specifically asking because I know they went from Reynolds steel to "Bianchi Cro-mo" and I wanted to know if anyone has any knowledge if these are worse quality. My girlfriend has a 2012 Brava and I just got a 2014 Imola. Off the bat I can see that her frame is a little heavier but also thinner (in terms of diameter of the tubes). I'm wondering if my frame is larger in diameter because the steel is weaker, the way aluminum frames have to be bigger. Any knowledge/thoughts/opinions welcome!

More likely the larger tubed frame also uses thinner tube walls, hence the lighter weight. Use of stronger metal allows for thinner walls and not suffer from dents as easily as with less strong materials. The reason to go with larger tube sizes is for stiffness. When reducing wall thickness one reduces the stiffness. By going larger diameter this stiffness is retained (and actually often made greater/stiffer as diameter has a geometric effect and wall thickness is a linier effect on stiffness). Remember that the stiffness of the SAME SHAPED piece of steel is pretty much the same regardless of the materials alloy or strength. Andy.

OP; Those two bikes are not close enough to being identical "except for the brand and size of pipe" to be able to make grand conclusions about cause and effect. Apologies in advance, but the answer to the questions you posed are harder to achieve than that. Also consider that Bianchi might have needed to shave a few dollars off the cost per bike so worked with Reynolds to cut costs by not paying the additional fee for the Reynolds badging. Or not... You could try an email to the Bianchi corporate office and politely ask them what the difference is. Worse case, they will just ignore you but what does an email cost...?

& Bianchi went to Japan The Taiwan like most every one else , particularly the USA imports .. If the BB is British and not Italian thread ,
It may have been made under contract There.. shipped out of Taipei when Japan cost too much to sub it out to.
They named the part of the county the California state mental hospital was located in after the Italian Town of Imola .
Lots of Italians settled in the county and made Wine.
