Still not sure if I can get the Shimano system at a reasonable price, but I did buy the "motor cabinet" from framebuilders supply
Turns out that bikecad pro has the tech data for the mounting of this system as well as a few others. I have always wanted to build a frame for this system since Shimano was promoting it for NAHBS attendees. I have a hilly commute, and on a hot, humid day like today or if I'm running late it would be nice to have an ebike. I am thinking about making an adapter for my frame fixture. Should be able to put a bb shell with the locating holes in the right place for the motor mounts.

Eric- I expect your thoughts to become more common as we "builders" age up. Please do keep us in the loop of your progress. Thanks. Andy.

I have a dutch city bike that now only comes in an ebike version. For whatever reason, ebikes really haven't caught on in Central PA. Most ebikes I've seen here are being ridden by students. Good way to avoid having a car, and my main idea is car replacement, not bike replacement. I've always thought it was weird that a town out in the middle of nowhere has parking problems, but an ebike gets around it. One bike shop in town is doing conversions using hub motors. I have always thought that pedal assist was the way to go. I think the market for a custom $5k ebike is pretty small.

I'm thinking about going with a tube set made for an mtb. But the main idea is a utility bike, and I think I'll skip the suspension fork. A e-fatbike might sell well with the hunters. An ebike made for singletrack is really going over to the side of evil.

I'm planning on using 26" tires and disc brakes. The Shimano ebike system can be set up to shift automatically with a Di2 IGH, but I think I will skip that.
