Small detail of a hand built frame pic and introdution

Hello Framebuilders,

Me, amateur, I build only for myself, I have a day job to support my habit. I have some novel ideas, but nothing radical. One is thinking that framebuilding is close to the level of artisanship of a good Luthier.

Some builders, make functional art/craft, that is my first goal. Attention to and execution of fine details, (artisanship) that nobody but another framebuilder would notice is my ultimate goal.

Hopefully this new forum, will ignite some interest in the "Hand Built Frame", and a corresponding appreciation in the VALUE of such and the TALENT of the people that build bicycle frames. Pros and Ams both.

There are several other builder's groups and forums, but they do not seem to cater to the general public interest. I wonder what the "goal" and who the audience of this forum is to be geared to. The sticky was kind of vague, guess it needs to be.

If you are a serious amateur, or pro you already know about those lists, forums. I for one am quite frugal in posting to those lists. Most of what I needed to learn I found by searching the archives and by putting a torch in my hands, acteleyne scares me by the way. I am not so much worried about asking a "dumb" question, but rather about not having bothered to see if someone else had already asked the same question and gotten an answer. Archives and books are wonderful sources of information.

I have followed some pretty heated discussions on another list, and have observed that framebuilders tend to be highly independent and opinionated people, and the chances of two agreeing on anything are quite slim. One of the more established list groups was recently shut down for a breif period by the person that ran the list when things got personal, out of hand, and had nothing to due with the topic. Alot of trash was posted before the issue was resolved.

Will the moderators be moderating and deleting such?

Photo is of a "coped or mitered" tube inside a lug prior to silver soldering. The "slop" in the "cope" is in the lug casting shorelines, tube to tube the joint at the required angle was close to light tight. Look close lower left and at 1:00 there are gaps, between the tube and the lug. I grind my copes, on a custom jig, on an old lathe, works well.

oknups,

The reason for the vagueness is this is new
territory for us, opened at the suggestion of
a few members who participate in various other of the forums.
I personally don't see this replacing the framebuilders forum
but would welcome any members from there. I do see this as
a place where any member can interact with framebuilders
and hopefully get questions answered. I don't see it
exclusive of framebuilders either, manufacturers reps
constructeurs etc. are more than welcome to particpate.
Yes we will moderate here, if a discussion becomes heated
that's fine as long as it stays within guidelines, personal
attacks will not be tolerated (same as all the other forums here).

Hope that helps,
Marty
