Make sure the metal of the frame is compatible with the chemistry of the plating bath. Plating Aluminum is not a good idea as far as I know. Often a layer of Cadmium is put down as a base for the Chromium. Check out both chemistries.

Check the pricing. Getting custom chrome work done can cost what a frame costs. I know for motorcycles it's expensive.

I recently got a quote of chroming a fork and the frame of my Italvega bike. Both frame and fork are clean of all paint and rust. The quote here in Spokane, WA was fork $125 and the frame $250. Kind of pricey. A bike shop in Seattle said their chromer would be about $300. Hummm. I may go with powder coat.

I've gotten a couple of forks recromed at a place near me in Syracuse, NY - US Plating. They mostly do auto & motorcycle restoration stuff, but the forks both came out great. I think I paid about $75 each, so it isn't cheap, but the EPA regulates thes guys like you wouldn't believe, so you gotta pay for the clean operation. Better than chrome & cadmium in your well water!
