Customizing a Surly frame

I'm looking for some opinions here.
I have a 42cm Surly Pacer that I really like as my road bike.
I also have a spare 42cm Pacer frame and fork lying around.
I think the Cross Check is a cool bike, but the 42cm model is not the same size as the Pacer (longer and taller standover), so me getting a CC is out.

I was wondering if it would be feasible to get brake bosses welded on to a Pacer frame to make a bike that takes canti/v-brakes. Would it work? Plus getting dropouts spaced to 132.5cm (from the 130cm they are now). I want to make a "Cross Pacer"

Its a fine idea assuming the wider cross tires will fit in your Pacer. Try putting a wheel w/a cross tire in the frame - does it clear the brake bridge, fork crown, and chainstays?

Adding cantilever brazons and re-spacing the rear triangle is relativley quick and easy work.

The Pacer has pretty good clearance for a road bike. Surly says it takes 28c with fenders, 32c without fenders. I'm not really planning on putting cross tires on it, just some Conti TTs or something like that, and some fenders. I'd like to have something for winter riding.
