Mystery Spot...

I purchased this frame about 9 months back. The dark spot in the image has continued to get larger and darker since I have owned the frame (which was purchased new) . See the 'pinhole' in the picture - it is under the finish. I cannot find any scuffs, scrapes, chips, etc in the finish anywhere near this blemish. Has anyone come across something like this before?

Thanks!

My bet is a pinhole in the clearcoat, causing oxidation to the surface underneath?

Thats the strange thing - the clear coat looks OK upon inspection. It appears that there is actually a pinhole in the material of the frame, underneath the clear coat.
