dropouts silver or bronze?

I've heard people who swear by bronze and those that swear by silver. What do you use? Has anyone used silver and had problems? It seems like silver would be much easier to work with on dropouts being that you wouldn't have to heat the entire dropout up so much.

I just did a frame with bronze on the dropouts but it was a real pain and didn't come out nearly as nicely as I'd hoped. Any suggestions or helpful hints are much appreciated.

Silver requires tight fitting joints - in the range of .003" gap clearance. Brass on the other hand can fill large gaps thus it's the choice for traditional dropouts. Plug type dropouts are different of course so silver can be safely used there.

Have you thought about using 50n? It works at 56% silver temps and "globs" almost like brass. That said, I like brass better because it's cheaper and stronger. Are you using the good brass like the stuff from Henry James?

50n is thicker but is still not a good choice for dropouts. And yes, the brass sold by HJ seems good to be but I'm no expert on the matter.
