Question about Tange
Hail to the Group. I know Nah-ting about frames other than what a sticker might tell me. So, it is with some curiousity that I see no sticker on a 1995 Scott ADF303 road/sport bike that I have an opportunity to buy. There's nothing fishy about the deal. I know the original owner, and we're both interested in what this frame is made of. It seems to be a lower level bike in the line-up that year at $700. All RSX stuff. Mint condition.
The specs on the web indicate just "Tange". That's all. Also, the specs say 24lbs. To me, that says a lower class of Tange. Is that right? Now, I get a higher weight reading on the bathroom scale - about 27 to 28lbs, but I have a Brooks B17 on it and there is a lightweight rear rack, too. So... any opinions as to what grade of Tange it might be? Do you think it's butted or straight gage? Is it on a par with those old Centurions?

Right...
The weight on the website is almost certainly taken from a fully built 18" frame, and won't be representative of bigger frames, which may also have slightly longers stems, seatposts, fitted which also weigh more.
Second, Tange is a huge steel manufacturer from Japan. Based on the cost of the complete bike it's not going to be an entry level steel tubeset, but it will be a lower class one. ItI can't find any specs on the bike myself, so I couldn't answer any technical questions on the frame materials.....
