What clear coat over clear Look matte finish?

I have a five year old Look frame with a matte finish. I've upgraded to a newer Look fork that has a gloss finish. I want to add a gloss clear coat to my frame. I have a pro painter lined up but, we have one simple question. What type of material is safe for the gloss coat? We don't want anything that will chemically attact the existing matte finish, especially because the decals are under the matte coat.

more than likely it's a polyurethane matte clear on there now, so just scuff and shoot, but,.....the painter should be able to test a small un-noticible section for compatability just to be sure.

he can also use an adhesion promoter/tie coat (a clear adhesive coat you shoot before the clear) or glasurit now makes a clear epoxy primer/sealer, not cheap but amazing stuff once you realize what you can do with clear primer.

if your painter knows his stuff, this wont be a problem, he SHOULD shoot a test panel first, so he won't get any suprises.

I'd be suspect of any painter that doesn't know what a test panel is, or that would have trouble with what you are asking
