Holes in Frame
Hi, I'm new to this forum and i joined because i am having problems with my vintage (1976 i believe) Raleigh Grand Prix Road Bike. I found this bike in my uncle's garage and he said i could have it and i am currently trying to convert it to a fixed gear bike. One major problem i have is a stem that will not come out of the fork, i am not sure as to the proper way to remove it, but i have searched this forum and i believe i have a frozen stem, but is there a way to remove a threaded stem from the fork? all i did so far was loosen the headset "nuts" i guess and the screw that was on top of the stem and i expected it to come out with a little bit of force, but i've been hammering down on the stem and it isn't coming out (i don't plan on using the stem or handle bars) but i do need the fork. Also, my uncle (for lack of a better word) stupidly welded a kick stand to the bottom end near the bottom bracket tube (i am not good with names) but we chipped it out and now there are 4 holes from where the kickstand was melted in, is this bike safe to ride, or can i repair these holes. here is a picture. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
