I want to build beach cruiser design, track/fixed geometry frame.
As I wrote in the title, I plan to produce a beach cuiser frames, with design simillar to beach cruiser bicycle (designed as Dream Bikes iq150 Classique on picture below or other classic cruisers) with geometry ready for track racing and fixed-gear. I think to build a frame smaller than race frame, but bigger than cruiser frame, for 28" or 29" wheels. Please help me in choosing correct geometry of the frame.
I'm a BMX rider since 8 Years, I had a BMX-shop, 3 Years ago I started selling beach cruisers, produced in China, asembled in Poland. Now I start to produce beach cruiser frames in Poland. I like beach cruisers, fixed gear and BMX because of the simplicity of these bikes. I will produce 3 types of beach cruiser male frames (+one female) so I plan to produce: 1. strong beach cruiser frame with MTB Freeride frame geometry 2. medium beach cruiser frame with MTB X/C frame geometry 3. light beach cruiser frame with racing bike geometry. because of my local friends and own experience it's easy for me to design MTB frames, byt I had never my own track or fixed bike, that's why I ask You for help. My bikes (www.DreamBikes.pl) are simple, strong and with some vintage accents. So I want to build bike looking exactly as vintage beach cruisers, but with racing/fixed-gear geometry, looking like this one: http://dreambikes.pl/images/dreamiq150.jpg I'm pretty sure that there are some track/racing bikes frames better for fixed gear than others because of geometry. As I wrote, I don't have experience on fixed gear bicycles, so please help me in choosing geometry of my frame. Please just try to write for me all parameteres as on this drowing: http://www.vintage-trek.com/Trekprom...s/image001.gif A: B: C: D: E: F: G: H: I love bikes and I want to build a great product, so please help me. |
An ok track geometry to start from:

Why? It would seem the design goals of a beach cruiser vs track geometry are opposing.
Is track geometry required for single speed/fixie? curious |
I think it's a cool idea.
Squirtdad - it just looks cool. The beach frame, I mean; I've always liked that style and thought it'd be neat to have a high-performance bike built around that style of frame. Hevimental - www.bikesdirect.com posts detailed photos, geometry and measurements for their track bikes. You should also look at road bike geometry if you plan to sell it as a road fixie. |

Something like this, the cruiser laid over the Bianchi.

QUOTE] Let me try to be clearer: I agree beach frames have a great deal of coolness....I am on the lookout for a classic at garage sales. My question is why build a beach frame, which I identify with laid back approach and relatively slack angles, with a track geometry with is a much less laid back geometry..and way more twitchy in handling? I got the feel from the OP that he thought single/fixxie needed track geometry. If the goal is to have a beach cruiser look you can put on a velodrome i.e has trackbike handling, then I understand the question. If the goal to to have a cool beach cruiser that has some enhanced handling over a classic slack angle cruiser...then I think track geometry is overkill...too twitchy. In any event I wish hevimetal good luck and maybe once the frames are in production there would be a way to get one in the US |
He has a chopper beachcruiser, so I guess this is the other end of the spectrum.

I think I may have an idea where the OP is coming from. I built this Frankenbike from an old Schwinn cruiser frame. The fork is from an unidentified Bianci. 700x23 tires on Sun CR18 rims laced 3x on Suzu hubs. Raise up the seat and use a long stem for a more aggressive riding position. It's nimble for traffic, stable at speed. Of the bikes I own (Full suspension Mtn. Bike, '84 Trek 720, Custom steel road bike with crit geometry) this one sees the most riding time. It's just so much fun. I ride it to work pretty much every day.

You could be right since in one place he mentions track, and in another he mentions racing bike geometry. On the other hand, in a different environment, maybe there is a demand for a bike to play road warrior on while sandbagging the other players with it's beach look.

As You can see we produced Beach Cruiser design race geometry frame:) Hope You'll like it.
The frames as well the bicycles You can buy on our website: www.DreamBikes.pl |
Cool... but the shipping costs to the US are probably prohibitive unless you can find a US distributor for it.

More complex than I had imagined. It's a beach cruiser race, that one can do BMX tricks on. That answers the what's it for question.

Dream Bikes Bravura Ostra (Fixed Gear) costs 600 USD in Europe.
Dream Bikes Bravura Strit 8 (Alfine 8 + 2x disc brake) costs 1000 USD. I think it's hard to find bicycles with handmade frames & fork in simlar price. Dream Bikes Designed in POZnan* Handmade in Polska. |
Those bikes look awesome.
I've been planning to build a beach cruiser fixie so it's good to see somebody has the same idea (validation that I'm not just insane). The one issue I'm running into is that most cruisers I come across are the no-name variety sold at big box stores. I guess this just speaks to the nature of your typical cruiser enthusiast. My question is this: what's a good brand to steal a frame from? Weight's not too big of a deal since my current ride is a mongoose hilltopper street conversion. Really I'm worried about overall quality and parts compatibility. |
