Up until now I have only built cyclocross, road, and track style frames, all steel fillet-brazed, however I am wanting to build a BMX frame just to play around with. My problem is that I know nothing about BMX. I did get on the BMX tread and try to pick up some info but I was wondering if any other frame builders can give me some advice. First question, what type of tubing?, straight gauge, butted 9/6/9, or heavier? Will fillet-brazed steel be sufficient? Are most BMX frames steel or aluminum? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

my son wants me to build him a bmx bike. Problem is he's very impatient. Apparently there are at least 3 kinds of bmx bikes: street, freestyle, and racing. Look on the Redline site for more info about geometry and typical materials. Looks like the high end have butted tubing. Seems like Henry James sells True Temper bmx tubing.

Yeah, I saw it and it might be good for some but I don't think its for me. I'm just gonna stick with my own brand and continue to suffer and if I have to I'll make my world famous cheesecakes and baklava on the side for some extra cash.

If they were closer to anyone in my family, I'd think about it. Of course, the engineering shop boss might not want to have a Ph.D. Mechanical Engineer working for him
