Just curious but why do you ask?

Almost all steel does now, whether or not it's intended to, due to the way in which steel scrap is recycled. As niobium functions as a microalloying addition, it's not really possible to say anymore whether or not there's enough in most steels to have any appreciable effect. I've seen plain mild steel come into my place of work with enough niobium in to make a different to the refinement of pearlite.

In the case of alloy steels, such as 18MCDV6, there will almost certainly be above 0.03% Nb, which is more than enough in conjunction with aluminium and vanadium to have a microstructural effect.

However, whether or not it's at higher, intentional levels is open to speculation without a mill C of C.

And, seconding, why?

well short story, got hit by a car on my iro fixie, the good thing is i only bruised my ass and my lower back. the drivers insurance is paying me a total of $4000 ($1500 for medical, $2500 for damaged property, frame, and my time)

i work at a bicycle shop and we can get serotta, cinelli, and eai.
im deciding if i should just buy this eai bareknuckle frame which is what i was originally going to buy for $500ish before i got hit by a car, but the tubing is dudacciai

the cinelli supercorsa pista is what i wanted to get before i decided on the bareknuckle, but it costs $1100, its niobium content is half as much as serotta

on the other hand the serotta frame, i can get custom fitted, with the highest niobium content of either of the above for ~$1500

a person from eai i spoke with said that the bareknuckle frame might have reynolds in it, but he didnt know which one. to me he didnt seem too certain about what the frame was made of just that it was dudacciai

I think there's been a misunderstanding here. Do you mean the 'Niobium' tubeset, or the niobium metal as an alloying ingredient in steel?

The actual quantities of niobium as an alloying ingredient in any steels containing it (with the exception of weld-stabilized stainless steels) rise no more than about 0.15%. The 'Niobium' steel tubeset by ColumbusTubi is practically the 18MCDV6 used by Dedacciai (for their EOM 16.5) but with the vanadium content switched for niobium.

The EAI is made with Dedacciai COM 12.5, and ironically, Columbus track ends.

COM 12.5, formerly known as ZeroUno, is an excellent tubeset. It has a .8/.5 butted profile with short butts, but not stupid short like Zero. You can find thinner/lighter tubesets but they will make for a flexy frame so what's the point?

Regarding niobium, please don't judge a tubeset based on how much niobium there is in the metal. As long as the frame is made with tubing from a reputable mfg'er, you can rest easy that the metal in the tubes is going to be fine.

Yep. I never was happy with the whole airhardening horse. It's a steel. It contains chromium and molybdenum. It will be fine.
