For those of you who wanted to see pictures....

We finally got frames back from our painter last night and here's one of the first builds. This SRAM Red example came in at 14 pounds, 5 ounces without pedals and cages. For some reason he couldn't get the clear on the bare seat stays to stop bubbling so we had to paint over them. Anyways, here's a few pictures. Sorry for the not so good photography. Lighting was bad and my digital camera skills are not that great. You get an idea though.

Oh, and since the entire frame was painted (no bare carbon showing) you cannot see the glued sections of the frame or the unidirectional finish. That's unfortunate. We are hoping the next batch of frames don't have the same problem.

I prefer a subtle but classy paint scheme over a rolling billboard...

    Enjoy.

That's a nice looking frame. Very "classic", even though it's CF.
    Good night...and good luck

Do you build the frames yourself? They look just like a Wilier.

No. But they are made by the same factory that Wilier gets some of their frames from, although this frame is much different (different tubing, different geometry, BB30, oversized headtube and different curved top tube, different construction method and layup). I think most of Wiliers carbon frames are high modulous monocoque construction. This frame is tube to tube construction.

Why must every bike these days be painted some combination of red, white, and black?

White and pearl white bikes with black, red, silver (add color here) seems to be hot right now.

Fortunately, you can get whatever colors you want in four different paint schemes OR design your own paint scheme and choose your own colors.

A design question here: Why are the chainstays so tall on the vertical axis, thats got to be chip your teeth stiff. But I love the way that black bike looks.

Not to say thats bad I mean if its a race bike who cares.

The ride is actually quite compliant and comfortable, even with 120+ psi in the tires. The chainstays are about 2 inches wide leading into the bottom bracket area. You can actually grab the rear dropouts and give them a "squeeze" and they don't move (most bike frames do). While that combination (monobox BB30 bottom bracket and very meaty chainstays) is very very stiff, the responsiveness is well, quite amazing. The wishbone seatstay design is a great way to soften the ride up a bit without giving up that responsiveness. The result is that every time you put down some power, the bike surges forward. There definately isn't any "rubberband" effect with this bike. I notice this even more when climbing, but that might have something to do with the oversized (ie not flexy) head tube as well.

The black bike pictured is my personal ride. It is #001 out of 100. I've put about 300 miles on it since 12/10/09 and it has exceeded my expectations in every way. I rode it sunday for 84 miles and I could have easily done 100+. I was very comfortable on it...
