Want to start practicing with MAPP
I have some old steel frames to practice brazing with, and for now, I just want to get some experience with small braze-ons, such as seatpost clamps, bottle bosses, etc. My problem is, I'm totally confused about which flux and rod to buy.
I've read that silver rod burns at lower temps, and is easier to work with when it comes to tight spaces, plus it's harder to melt brass with a MAPP torch. So, I figure I'll go with silver, but I still have no idea which type to buy, or what flux to get with it.
There's just too much info everywhere to process at once, so help me out.

get some 56% silver cadmium free. Get Harris Safety-silv flux, the white stuff. If you're burning anything other than the MAPP, you're doing it wrong.

Thanks, I'll look into that.
Would this work, so I can just buy it locally? https://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...1&marketID=109

I'm pretty sure that Home Depot doesn't stock that at their stores. Try to find a local welding shop. If they don't have it they can order it for you. My local Airgas stocks it.

I don't use MAPP except for plumbing. I tried using it for brazing once and it's horrible, but the OP is going to try it.

I like MAPP/oxy for cutting steel but it puts out a lot of heat, I imagine you could use it without an issue for brazing, assuming you have MAPP tips for the torch.

Apparently some guys build entire frames with silver and an air-MAPP torch. That's what Talbot does in his book.
I used air-Mapp to build racks (w. brass) and other thingies. Haven't used it in a while nor touched a frame with it, but it was cool to get a feel for brazing. I'm sure it'll work fine for braze-ons and the silver you linked.
Besides the lower heat, the flame that comes out is quite big compared to an oxy-fuel flame. So joints may be a bit messy and building fillets is quite hard.
