I am completely new to bike building but am interested in building a walworks style mountain bike fork 26" . I would like the fork blades to be parallel. I weigh 165 and this will be for trail riding and not heavily abusive riding.. can anyone recommend tubing sizes for this fork? outside diameter and wall thickness. I am thinking of using 4130 tubing.. thanks a lot, also if you know any good sources?? can I braze weld a fork like this?

I think that was on Frameforum at one point. I think basically you are dealing with several parts, the blades, which are going to be the size required for the plug ins, the shoulder pieces I would be tempted to make those oversize a little but on some other similar parts I have examined, like Raleigh, they are very thin wall. And the the rest is going to be standard parts. This is not a beginner project really. Equally cool options are the Groovy Cycles box crown, and the Pacenti. And I think either of those would be safer if you have any doubts.

crown tubes should be 1.25 X.058 and legs can be 1.25X.035 as long as you are not making it too long. if it's longer than 17.5 from crown to axle, I would bump the legs up to .049.

I would also consider sleeving the top couple of inches of fork leg with another piece of tube (internal) or using an external brazed gusset.
