hi all i am in the last leg of a frame redo i will be using a krylon spray bomb white primer. the paint will be a oil base from tractor farm supply. This will be sprayed from a badger touch up gun. how long do i have between the primer having been sprayed and putting on the paint. After the paint has dryed i will be putting on water slide decals from a lazer jet printer. What will keep this safe, Clear spray bomb krylon maybe?

Is the primer an oil base primer? If not, you might have trouble with the oil base paint adhering properly. If you are putting oil over water, I would wait at least 3 days between priming and painting to make sure the water based primer is cured properly. I never like going oil over water in spray bombs. I use the same manufacturer and bases in my primers and paints.

As for the water slide decals, make sure you use clear spray paint over the ink to prevent scratching and fading. Use a water based clear over these as an oil based clear might hurt the decal film. Once the decals are on the bike, clear the whole bike with three coat of clear. Light (very light) wet sanding (400 grit) between the 2nd and 3rd coats will give you a super finish.

Long John I would not have used krylon if i was you. Hope the paint doesn't start melting after you put the Krylon clearcoat. Really really really dangerous to put lacquer over an enamel.

Regarding the decals, the main issue here is that the paint, the decals and the clear coat will dry at different rates (the paint moves) and thats the reason many manufacturers never cleared their decals and thats why decals crack also like for example pinarello's. I would test this thing really well because you are mixing lacquers with enamels and it is not such a good idea.

If what are u looking for is a finish like this one, Krylon clear won't do the job just in case.

wow all work stoped i am using a VALSPAR RESTORATION SERIES TRACTOR & IMPLEMENT FINISH, ALLIS CHALMERS ORANGE over the kylon primer is that a mistake too?

was the frame in the pic a spray bomb finish and if so how did you do the matilic blue finish i would like to do that with my orange and velspar makes a oil primer if i cant use mine.

Send me your email in a PM and i'll tell you how I got that finish, what paint i used and stuff. But i used car paint, the good thing is that u have a detailing gun and maybe a compressor. I did not have those but i used other stuff, you should be able to get it better than me if you use the same type of paints I used. Its long to explain in here, send me your email.

What i really dont know if you can clear the paint u have in there, probably u can. And since u have the paint already I would do a few changes only and wait for the best because I really dont know if the clear coat i used will work right in the paint u have, maybe it will.

The paint I bought had the metallic in it, In your case maybe you can add red sparkles to the clear coat, or even orange ones. You can put sparkles to the paint also but i dont know how it will turn because the color is pretty thick, i would test it 1st to see how it works.
