I acquired this frame and fork from the United Kingdom. It was advertised as beautifully built and designed but the builder was unknown. Indeed, it has the cleanest lug brazing I've ever seen. My question: what are the cable guides brazed onto the bottom of both chain stays maybe six inches aft the bottom bracket shell? The frame and fork has some nice details and no open vent holes; no down tube lever bosses; no cable guides under or on top of the bottom bracket shell. There are two cable stops brazed under the down tube. One is near the head tube and one near the bottom bracket. Both stops have three inserts for cables. I'm beginning to think that this is a custom frame maybe even built by the original owner. It has too many nice details to be a production bike. I would appreciate any enlightenment.

Rather than fixed guides brazed or bolted to the BB, seems that this bike was intended to use a section of cable housing between the lower downtube cable stop and the next cable stop at the CS (for the RD). Probably another cable stop on seattube below the front derailler?

Maybe they added the downtube tripple cable stops (rather than double stops) and the NDS chainstay stop to be able to use a cable actuated hub drag brake as a third brake for long descents while loaded touring to take some of the brake load off the cantilevers?

Spare spoke holders?

Thanks for your interest. The NDS braze on is a guide not a stop. It is brazed onto the bottom of the NDS. I didn't mention before that there is no RD cable stop on the DS chain stay. (?)

I don't see it in your pictures. I suspect I know what it is, but I see no reason to speculate without a picture. And that's also why you didn't get a satisfactory response in C&V.
