Options!

I am looking for an ≤900 custom frame. I would prefer to be able to talk to the builder in person because this would be my first custom frame and it isn't even for me. I was looking at Tim Sanner of Sanner Cycles a while back, but he seems to be no more. So, anybody know of any good budget builders in the gulf coast area of Texas or between Houston, Texas and Pensacola, Florida(west Florida)

That number sounds unrealistic to me. At that price my guess is that you're only going to be able to go with someone brand new... and it might make sense to go for another surly instead. I could be wrong though.

If I go all-out with paint and parts, a frame can cost me that much to build. Don't think it's realistic

There's your answer.
You want a quality, custom frame for $900.
That means you want a pro who will work for way less than minimum wage. How "pro" is that?

I don't think its all that unrealistic. I guess i neglected to mention that the sanner I was looking at was about 800 with basic 4130. I(or the rider I should say) does not need, or know about, any higher end tube set. I guess this was a lot to ask.

There's the crux of your problem...you started using the $800 frame as a barometer for the cost of a custom.
Where's that $800 builder again?

take a look at production frames and then rethink what is realistic about an $800 custom frame.

soma san marcos (cheap rivendell design) $900

http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/f-soma.htm

surly pacer frame $450

soma es $450

I am sure there are many new builders who try to build market share by selling frames at very low markups, in hopes of being able to raise prices as they build a reputation

Forget I asked.

I know custom frames aren't cheap, but I've seen one below 900 so I was just asking a simple question.
