Chainstays for a Cyclocross bike.

What ovalized chainstay tube would any of you framebuilders suggest for a lugged frame? I'd like a stiff chainstay, weight is not a concern, tire clearance is. I would like 700x35 clearance.

Reynolds offers the 725 FX2521 chainstay tube:17 x 30 oval, 0.9/0.6 wall thickness, 430 length.

Any alternatives?

Barrett; Recommend selecting or narrowing down to a short list of the lugged bottom bracket fittings to your needs and then find what will fit into them... it may drive you to just one or two choices. Regarding the CS length... might want to consider 445mm length. May also want to consider some of the S shaped CS's to get you the tire clearance. Hope that helps/K

It depends whether the BB shell had round or oval sockets. Columbus and Nova have 0.8 mm stays in ROR or full oval. Some MTB stays from Nova or True Temper are thicker (0.9 or 1.0 mm) but have a bend. 700x35 is going to be tricky without the bend. I managed to fit a 38 mm tire in ROR 435 mm c-c stays but I need to deflate the tire to take the wheel out (because of the fender).

Edit:yes, fenderless 35c should be fine with no bend (see below)

Richard Sachs and others seem to be able to fit cyclocross tires in a standard Columbus oval chainstay

With 30/16 straight chainstays that are 420mm long, I have about 42mm between the stays at the tire. 700c wheel.

I have Columbus Zona oval chainstays that clear a very large 32mm tire, and I'm sure a 35mm would clear fine.
