I wanted to have tabbed dummy axles but don't have a rotary table, I did a work around to get the same function. I made a quick prototype using the fastening bolt as the axle(9mm), milling the tab to just a bit under the axle dia. Not as elegant as the pro dummy axle shown but works for me, although I will take more care with the final ones.

That is a good idea, if you absolutely need to make it yourself. I've made exactly one dummy axle and decided I was the dummy for spending hours machining it. I totally understand wanting to make things yourself, but the $35 Don charges for the Anvil dummy axles is hard to beat.

I agree on both counts, it's a really cool idea and I prefer to throw $35 at Don when I need another axle. I will admit that I have made my own axles though. Paragon also makes a really nice dummy axle, although I guess they don't sell them to just anyone, only Sputnik

No argument there! I posted this in case others might want to have/make a tabbed axle but lacked the tooling(rotary table) to do so. In this case I got 6' of 3/4" cr round stock at the scrap yard for basically free. That plus the opportunity to increase my limited machining skills to make something I can use were the deciding factors. After making this first practice one I figure I can make four different length dummies and washers in a couple of hours, so that works out to $140+- total savings or $75hr; I'll use this $ to buy something I can't make. If I was a professional frame builder and not a hobbyist I wouldn't hesitate to buy one, its a no brainer cost effectively.
