What item of Cycling gear is hardest to keep smell out.?
I usually hang up my bike jersey, jackets , and shorts in the closet...Assessories like arm and leg warmers, socks, gloves , undershirts, etc. in a designated drawer in a chest...
So I open all the sacks within which I keep the various gear; which I seperate into bags to keep like items together...Well, you open each bag...Each items usually smells fresh and recently laundered..If laundering is possible of coures.
But the item that usually has some smell...Gloves...Anyone else notice it..Sort of combination of sweat and mold. Gross...
I usually rinse my gloves out in a bucket filled with either laundry soap or woolite...Hang them out to dry...
WHy do gloves maintain a stink...? Anyone else notice this...I have several pair of gloves and think I usually wash them out every month or so..Have not noticed this with helmets, which I never clean....

Lets leave out underwear. or chamois' for all that...They are easily laundered...Don't know about others, but my Fab soap works just fine..

Actually gloves and helmet seem to be the hardest items to keep the smell out. Of course if you ask slvoid, he'll tell you the hardest cycling gear to keep the smell out of would be his seat.

Maybe the problem with gloves is the leather. Leather does not dry, easily.?

My jacket. So very rank. Embarassingly bad. Don't want to wash it too much though, I worry about harming the gore-texy stuff it's made of. I'm convinced that even tech wash shouldn't be used on a regular basis.
Gloves too. Mine and most of my friends' gloves, also, smell like sweaty vinegar. Isn't that weird? Wait, what's suddenly weirder is that I've smelled my friends' gloves.

Go to a pet supply store and buy some enzymatic cleaner (used for cleaning up behind pet mess). The enzymes will take care of the smell.
The guy that cleans my carpets gives me some of his concentrated enzymatic cleaner from time to time. It works even better.

I imagine the gloves get really smelly because there's a lot of dead skin that rubs off on the inside. They're probably crawling with bacteria.

Seems gloves are the most mentioned...What is enzymatic cleaner...Or I mean can it used used on clothes..I wash my jackets in woolite..Gentle cycle..The acculmated sweat would be unacceptable.

Tried putting my gloves in the washing machine for a change..Fab Rainforest..Makes my jersey's smell like the rainforest..Wrapped them up tightly in a pillow case.. Let them air dry..Still some of that musty moldy smell...Thats how it is.

Gloves and helmet for me too. Gloves collect sweat, snot and road dust, problem is that they are sooooo comfortable and they don't make them any longer. I guess I'll just keep hand washing until they disolve. Helmet gets sweaty, but I always shower before riding so that's as much as I can do. I do spray it with Fabreese once a month and that really helps take the smell out, springtime fresh scent too. Clothes and other stuff go in washer often.

Shoes are deffinently the worst smelling part of cycling followed closely by gloves. All the other stuff is easily laudered so no biggie.

I have a poly/spandex shirt from target that no matter how many times i wash it, still smells like i just got done riding a centry in july. Even right when I take it out of the washer! I mean it really smells. Luckily, it's long sleeve, and I won't be needing it for a few months. Hopefully, when the cold comes back again, I can afford to throw that away and get something nicer.
