Has anyone ridden one? Are they harder or easier to maintain? Are they smooth, quiet and good performers??? My LBS doesn't have any

The Nexus 7 hub is just about the most inefficient device I've ever used. I can just imagine how more inefficient it could be with a mechanical drive on top of it!

Have you ever used it in freezing weather? I'm thinking this would be a good winter bike if I put a disc brake on the front. Around here, we get a lot of weather that is right around freezing and a lot of icing. Often my derailleurs ice up and I end up with a de facto single-speed, which is really the last thing I need going up hills in the ice.

You asked:
"Hi there .. I'm just wondering why your bike looks exactly like the "Outback" that is being sold at https://www.dynamicbicycles.com -- any info is appreciated."
Yes, It is possible that from the same manufacturer 8 speed. $749 They make a lot of profit.

I noticed today that College Park Bicycles, which is well-respected, is carrying the Dynamic. I have to get over there and try it out.

was going to complain that a rear flat tire essentially strands you for a week, but Dynamics design seems to be end user removable with simple tools . however this itself raises concern about drivetrain sealing and durability, watching the wheel removal video it is clear the gear was not inside a sealed oil bath...

Have opinions changed at all about these in the 9 years since this thread? Currently listed in Phoenix.
That iteration of Dynamic/Incline has a built in design flaw. Ive posted on it many times before. Basically, the bottom bracket and bevel gear on the end of the shaft are far too under-engineered(?) to be useful, long term. Recently, Dynamic appears to have beefed it considerably, correcting all of the issues I had with mine. On the one I had, I feel the shaft would last indefinitely but for the aforementioned bevel gear. IF Dynamic and the maker of the shaft assembly have fixed the flaws of the first version, I think it would be a very nice alternative to chains, which Im all for
