A funny thing happened on my ride today.
So I'm riding back from depositing a check at my bank and I decide to swing by our local Goodwill thrift store. So I lock up the ol Schwinn with my trusty combo cable lock to the bike rack out front there and I'm off to find a awesome deal. Ten minutes later I leave swearing I'll never waste my time at Goodwill again. Nothing but trash these days thanks to Craigslist.
So I get down to unlock my bike's cable lock. I turn the little wheels as I have hundreds of times...1-2-5-2. Give a little pull and NOTHING. "Huh?
Jiggle jiggle jiggle. Still nothing. Spin all the little wheels again and re 1-2-5-2'ed "What the WTF!?" again I try. And again and again and again again again. It won't unlock!
Panic sets in. What do I do? What do I do?
I text my wife, "can't get bike unlocked. I Can't leave it alone to bring back a saw, someone will steal it!
Wife texts back, "LOL! Then carry it home silly! (she's not into bicycles)
So I convince her to bring me a hack saw from the garage and about fifteen minutes my hero arrives to save me and my Schwinn with a hack saw and some wire cutters! Good thinking Honey.
Ten minutes later my bike is free and both of us leave. She by automobile and I by bicycle.
I beat her home. Ha ha ha ha.
So here I am. Safe and sound in my living room wondering what the hecks up with my lock? It wasn't a cheap combo cable, although it was old. It isn't one of those that you can change the combination on so I didn't screw that up.

I wouldn't claim it as really high class if you couldn't change the combination. Can't remember how to do it, but even mine can be changed.

I said "trusty". Not high-class. Mid grade. Not the most expensive nor the cheapest. Guess I better get a padlock and chain. Wear the key around my neck.

I've got all of my lock combinations written down in a notes app on my iPhone, which I always carry with me, in case I forget them. I still have to look at the list on occasion because I've got about six different combo locks -- one of which I lost the combination without writing it down.

I had one of those combination locks fail me a few days after getting it, had to cut it to get my bike back. I only use keys nowadays.

I had to leave my bike at the bus station once, to go get it the next day with bolt cutters. Same thing: it was a cable lock with a combination which I easily remembered. I walked over to the bike shop where I had bought the lock and they loaned me a pair of bolt cutters, which went through that cable depressingly easily. Like happened with the OP, nobody paid any attention to the bike thief.
Now I use a keyed lock.

Time was lost. Your wife's day was interrupted and she was inconvenienced. A perfectly suitable lock had to be destroyed.
I ask you, amid all that carnage, where is the funny part?

I like how no one even asked what you were doing. Out there hack sawing a cable off. Everyone is so self absorbed these days
That video is hilarious. I bet if he asked, people would have helped him steal the bike
