Did you swap out a motorcycle for your bike?
I owned a motorcycle for the past decade. I usually took a trip on it every year. Besides that one trip, I would ride it to work sometimes.
I eventually realized that I wasn't really using this expensive machine all that much. It cost money to keep insured and registered even when I wasn't using it. At the same time, I realized that I enjoyed bicycling a lot, and started riding my old Walmart bike to work.
I thought about selling my motorcycle all winter, and swapping it out for a nicer bicycle than I owned. Finally this past March, I pulled the trigger. I sold the motorcycle and bought a nice Trek 7.4 FX.
Looking back, I don't regret my choice at all.
Any similar stories / happy endings / regrets?

i have crashed on both in my life, I can keep a bicycle in an apartment ..
i could Fly My Bike in Carton and ride it around in Europe, for months , for the cost of Just Shipping a Motorcycle there and back.
Regrets ? I wish My buddy would have sold his BMW R27 to me instead of dying on it.
Or I'd added that sidecar to my R60. and been able to Keep it. ..

nope, still have a load of motorcycles...most of them are track bikes, only two are tagged and insured.

Nope, not technically. It was a vintage scooter. (I hate anything two stroke) I traded a '64 Vespa GL for a '72 Raleigh Superbe. The other guy thinks he got the better deal. Except he's the one who drove from another state, brought me a near perfect example of the model and still had to put the scooter back together in order to ride it.
I'm looking at selling my Harley and pick up a bolt-together "custom" bicycle. Actually I just want to get rid of the motorcycle. The bike's coming anyway.

I got back into cycling about 4 years ago, when I started dating my current girlfriend (an active cyclist). Since then, I've gone nuts for bikes, learned how to work on them, bought and sold a bunch, and started working part-time as a bike mechanic!
Before that, I rode a string of sport-touring motorcycles (Honda V65S, Yamaha FJ1200, and most recently a Triumph Sprint ST 955).
My Triumph started giving me grief even before I put it away two years ago. So, I know that I'll have to invest money and/or time to get it running smoothly again when I take it back out.
Instead, I've been spending that money and time on bicycles! The Triumph just sits. I'll probably get it tuned up this year, but I happily ride my bikes every day.

I rode dirt bikes from the mid 70's till 91 and have been cycling since 89. I decided to try dirt biking again 6 years ago. Enjoyed it cause the bike, XR400, had a tag. Cycling took the back set then. Bought a tagged KTM 525 and enjoyed that and then sold it last August and bought a new Gunnar Crosshairs. Probably will not be back on the motorized bikes.

Yes, same situation as you. After many years of motorcycle riding and road racing, I got into cycling and was putting more miles on my bicycle than motorcycle. Sold it and bought a nicer bicycle. I had my fun with them and moved on.

I do both.

Yes, me, too. Though riding either cuts into my time for riding the other, I still like them both and will probably keep both as long as I'm healthy and able to ride.

I wouldn't say that I "quit" riding motorcycles in lieu of bikes, but it is what I do now instead.
I crashed my CBR900 back in 07 and about killed myself. I used bicycles as a way to do physical therapy and just to get out doing something during my recovery period (as if that's ever going to be over). Coming back to something I loved so much as a kid and seeing the pounds drop ended up that I was making the choice to ride my bicycle a lot, while the moto sat in the garage. It finally got to the point that the clutch seized up on the bike from not being used, so I sold it to free up the room.

This. Although lately I do find myself more of a Sunday motorcycle rider than a Sunday bicyclist. Funny, I figured it would be the other way around, with the motorcycle having a big headlight and two driving lights, a windscreen, and a connector for electrically-heated jacket, pants and gloves.

Started bicycle touring after a saw two genial tourers come off a ferry in Ontario in 2009. They were on their bicycles, I was on my motorcycle, and it looked like they were having more fun than i was.
Since then my weeklong summer rides have been on bicycles, not motorcycles. Time to sell the K75...

I've ridden motorcyles my whole life, from minibikes as a kid, through dirt bikes, and licensed on the street when I was 16.
As I entered my late 40's I decided motorcycling took too much time away the much healthier activity of cycling, so I sold my last streetbike and started riding my MTB more... which morphed into riding my road bike more
I still miss my streetbike occasionally (although I don't miss fearing for my life from all the distracted drivers). Currently on the lookout for an enduro funbike or perhaps a classic trials bike. (Had a Bultaco back in the day)

I rode a motorcycle most of my life. The last one I had was a BMW G650X dual sport. I wrecked it in 2012 and spent 15 days in the hospital. Then months recovering. I rode bicycles a lot when I was younger so once I could get around again I bought my Felt Z85 and started riding again. Now I ride it quite a bit and take it on vacation with us a ride every day.

Not exactly a swap, but I finally sold my Kawasaki 750 when it became apparent that I was riding my bicycles instead of it.

I sold my HD when issues with distracted drivers took the relaxation out of riding. Bought my Trek Domane 5.2 and Surly Straggler. We have a wonderful network of dedicated bike trails here in Iowa and I love the relaxation.

Was into bicycles first, then motorcycles. Crashed motorcycle and it took the next two years before I could walk again. Got back into bicycles and this has been going strong for over thirty years. Every once in a while I get the urge to just try a motorcycle again for that last ride before I die thing but maybe the dream is better than the reality.

My Life progression went bike>moped>motorcycle(s)>scooter>bike
I still have a motorcycle non-op'ed in my fathers barn, but it is in California and I am in Utah. I use the bicycle for daily transportation now.

For several years I lived in the country in a hilly part of Italy and commuted 25 miles to work every day on an Aprilia 125. On the weekends I would ride my bike. Since I moved back to the US four years ago I've been living in a college town that is about five or six miles across. I really wanted to get a scooter or motorcycle, but just couldn't justify it. I can get anywhere in town in minutes on the bike. So, no motorcycle. Instead I've picked up a 'cross bike and a second road bike and am enjoying them very much.

I rode motorcycles for 30 years or so. Got rid of my 1400 Intruder about 11 years ago. Was almost hit 3 times in 45 minutes. The last one was a Expedition. (was all grill in the mirror) I got scared after that. Always said if I get scared of it I will stop. Put the bike in the shed and left for 1.5 years. Rode it 1 more time and said I'm done with it. Started riding bikes about 1.5 years ago and never look back. So while it was not a trade off I love the cervelo and others more.

Yeah sort of. I had a dual sport bike (Suzuki DR650) that I would use for dirt road riding and the occasional camping trip. I went down on some deep gravel and shattered my left tibia. So when I was able to make it to the garage, I took photos and put it on craigslist. Don't want to go through that again. So to help me work harder during physical therapy, I bought myself a "carrot" bike (Moots Psychlo-x) to get me out there a little faster. It worked.
