Bike Brand that's made in the USA?
I prefer to buy American made products, though that's getting to be an increasingly difficult task. I know Thomson seat posts and stems are made in the USA. And I recently found that Intense Cycles makes their own frames in the USA also. Anyone know of other bikes or components that are American made?

Anderson Custom Bicycles, Appleman Bicycles, Caletti Cycles, Calfee, Co-Motion Cycles, Holland Cycles, Lynskey, Moots, Nelson Titanium Products, Paketa, Quiring Cycles, Renovo, Rock Lobster, Sanner Cycles, Seven Cycles, Strong Frames, Ti Cycles, Tsunami Bikes, and Zinn Cycles are all made in America.
None of those are big companies. Once you're spending $3000-$4000 on a bicycle you ought to get _exactly_ what you want and you won't get into a big company's made-to-order program for that little (if they even have American made frames for any price). Some are very popular and you will pay a lot for the name. Some are surprisingly affordable - custom Tsunami frames start at $800.
Materials include aluminum, bamboo, carbon fiber, magnesium, steel, stainless steel, titanium, and wood. Steel can be tig welded, fillet brazed, and lugged.
I'm a big fan of titanium and would consider stainless steel for my next frame (my current one with no paint looks much better after 18 years than the last one did just 7) so those are over-represented although if you looked at everyone you'd find a larger share of steel builders.
There are lots of San Francisco Bay Area makers in that list because I live here, although you can find frame builders everywhere cycling is popular.
Velocity rims are made in Florida. DT Swiss spokes are made in Colorado. Chris King, Phil Wood, and White Industries are made in America.

Does the source of components matter? Because while the makers the YouthinAsia listed assemble bikes and make frames in the USA, they use components made overseas.
It is possible to build an all-American bike, but very expensive.
Frame is the easy part, but where the expense starts as you are talking a custom maker like Rodriguez, Seven or Lynskey.
Drive train is the next issue, the only made in America option I know of would be a NuVinci internal hub from San Diego area.
To get a USA made crankset and cog you are again talking custom, as I believe even companies headquartered in America like FSA and Cane Creek still have their stuff actually made overseas.
Chris King headsets are all USA made I believe.
Selle Anatomica saddles are made in USA in Florida.
Wheels you could go with Zipp. Tires I'm not sure there actually is a US made option.

Zipp wheels are actually made about a mile from where I live in Speedway Indiana. Maybe I should go scrounge through their dumpster from time to time.
Are Surly frames made in the States? I thought they were, but I'm not sure.

There are also more affordable bikes for casual riders that are still made in the U.S. such as Worksman Cycles, Bike Friday, Detroit Bikes, and Heritage Cycles. Some other brands: Oury Grips, ENVE, King Cage, Lizard Skins, Wald...

It does not look to be getting harder to "buy American" from what I see in the business. It's not the MTB-fueled CNC boom of the late '80s, but it seems there are more USA made bike products available in the past 10 years than in the 10 previous to that.

I believe Marvel Compound Tires makes tires for bicycle in the US from molds in the US. I'm not positive if it's all of their tires though. I think American Airless does too.

Detroit bikes are actually made in Detroit, i.e. the frames are made in the city, and they're painted and assembled there, too, all in their factory. Real.
Shinola merely assembles bikes, i.e. they put parts on frames built and painted in Wisconsin (by Waterford). Nice bikes, for sure, but not "made in Detroit" in any real sense in my book. A couple of guys bolting stuff together-- and I've been to Shinola to see how they "make" their bikes and watches-- is not making stuff.

Wow. Looks like the real challenge is in bringing all this together in one bike and at a reasonable price. Sheesh. Thanks for all the input, guys. Perhaps with my next bike I'll start with an American made frame and compromise from there.

Firefly custom Ti + enve tied to chris king hubs + enve fork, stem, post + supacaz bar tape = american
Of course, you're kind of hosed when it comes to drive train, but I wouldn't mind throwing a little campy super record on that bike. And then a fizik saddle.
That would give you one helluva American/Italian bike.
