Rejuvenating and upgrading my Trek 800 mountain bike

I purchased my Trek a couple of years ago from someone off of craigslist. It has been fine and rides OK but I want to get it back to its glory days. It was built and still has the original Shimano Altus rear derailleur so I have bought a Shimano Acera RD-M360-SGS 7/8 speed derailleur to replace it. That should be a small upgrade. I also plan on replacing the cassette, chain, front derailleur and crank. Does anyone have any suggestions for what they would pair things up with. I see that Shimano has "Hyper Drive" cassettes and I was looking at them but I understand that for the hyper drive to work properly, several components need to match and all need to be off the hyper drive style. Your input and guidance would be greatly appreciated.
