buying my first frame
Hi all! first post, and apologies if im in the wrong section. I will learn as i go
Before i go on, ill preface this by saying im a triathlete in the offseason in my first year of road racing. I love it! And i can hear the groans from here re: triathlete
Anyway, im looking to build my first frame over time.
Im a bit thick with this. Im trying to see if a road frame fits me- this one is a bit different, being a Ridley as i believe they run large?. Im considering having a good dig at this, considering its a frame i can use normal brakes on and not the integration in the FAST models.
https://www.ebay.com.au/...e=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
For everything i have ever ridden, its always been medium/54. Im 177cm tall, seat height of 71.5cm from middle of bb to seat centre.
Current bike:
Scott foil size 54:
Stack - 549
Reach - 385
H/tube - 140
I have 2cm of spacers (no headset cap) and run a 110mm stem with 6 degree rise (which is the stock stem on a 54), all stock compact bars aswell.
Ridley Noah (not the FAST version so i dont have to dick around with integrated brakes) in a small (!!!)
Stack - 545
Reach - 385
h/Tube - 145
I have no idea how Ridley adjust their seatpost with the integration, and i may have to contact the seller to see if it can reach 71.5cm in height.
But am i correct in assuming this will fit? The head tube being 5mm larger on the ridley, would that mean i would be running the same 20mm of spacers such as i do now on the foil, to achieve the same stack height? Ridleys scare the **** out of me for sizing, and being a first bike build, i want to nail the first and most crucial step.
Thanks. Again, apologies if im in the wrong section! Looking forward to learning a bit more of the roadie culture!

I would assume nothing and not rely on the blind guesses over this site to provide them ..
go find a Brick and Mortar bike shop to see and be seen .

However, the sizing felt wrong from the first ride.
I've since bought another bike for which I had a proper fitting. It's a cheaper bike but fits me better & is a more enjoyable & quicker ride.
from your post it looks like as though all the numbers align but I'd recommend test riding it first.
Let us know how it goes, good luck

timmy_07 First of all welcome. Don't know where you are located, and know absolutely nothing about tri bikes except they purportedly go way to fast, but there is a LBS chain near me called Endurance House that emphasizes all things triathlon. I have not been in there but you should get knowledgeable info there

Your link is broken
As far as fit.. there is quite a bit of adjustment you can do with different seat positions, and stem lengths, angles, and etc. So, if you are close, you should be able to get it dialed in like you want it.
Perhaps drop at the stem will be an issue, but you're only off by 5mm. Do you have any spacers under your current stem? Angled up or down?

Its a ridley noah, not a tri bike
The appeal i guess, is its different. There are next to zero ridleys around here where i live, simply because dealers dont have them. Spesh, cdale, trek etc sure, but not ridley.
I have 20mm under the stem. The stem itself as a 6 degree rise.
Its hard to test ride something like this since there are none around, but i thought it would be a fun first build

That is a tall seat mast. Is there any adjustment... or is it just cut to size?
I'd get a a better description of what the seller considers as "superficial damage".
It should be a great project if you get the frame at a good price.
