The Dogma F8 is a little more than that. But I don't think someone can get to close to $20,000 even with EPS, top end wheels, and a powermeter.

I think we all are responding to a troll.

I am thinking a little about the new model with the rear shock. Overall, how do you like your bike....Given this thread is otherwise a waste of energy...

Damit !! that's just not fair....I wish my mutual funds could go up $5000 in a matter of minutes. Maybe I should of invested in a $20000 dollar bicycle instead.

Main point was: Can they actually do anything about it, beyond telling you not to? I have lived in such places before (they always had a back door and/or service elevator) and I won't put myself again in the situation where 'the office' can tell me what I can and cannot put in my apartment*.

*Within reason of course. I don't see what is the big issue with a bicycle.

If you can afford a 20k bike you can afford to pay the doorman to look the other way.

Back when I was in college, we were told that bikes were not allowed in the dorm rooms, and that they must be locked up to the bike rack outside. Supposedly enforced by the custodial/cleaning crew. If they saw a bike, they informed dorm management. Yeah riiiiight. We were not about to leave bikes with leather Brooks saddles sit outside in the snow/rain. We had three bikes in our room. We took off the wheels and slid the frames under the bunk beds. Yes, we carried them up the stairs to our room, not through the main lobby. Oh, and each of our bikes were 'only' worth hundreds, not thousands. Well adjusted to today's dollars they'd be close to a grand. My Fuji S-10S, and two of my roommates had Viscounts - one the Aerospace Pro, and another a Viscount GP. Other guys in our dorm did much the same. One had a Raleigh, another a Paramount plus his Crit bike....

Yes, that kind of case will run you $400, but better than storing the bike in an unsafe place.
Thats brilliant idea!! I already have one. Thank you. I will try.

That is a bit of a hike, but your $20K bike should weigh about 10 lbs.

I don't have a lot of tall buildings around here, but I'll do stairs 10 or 20 floors when I find them (fairly light).

47 floors is quite a few. But, you could at least take the stairs the first 10 flights, then hop onto the elevator... and in a few weeks, perhaps start doing the whole 47. It would be good exercise.

Many large buildings also have utility access.

I bring my bike into my office. I work in a large hospital. I did not want to park it in the outside bicycle racks because of the inconvenience of removing all the bits and pieces. The bike isn't worth very much but the Brooks saddle, the lights, the loud horn, the speedo and the trunk with it's contents add up. Before I started to ride to work, I asked myself, "Who can I ask in this gigantic bureaucracy of 90,000 for permission to bring my bike into my office everyday?" Realizing, there might not be anyone in the bureaucracy with that particular responsibility or authority. So, I decided if it was a problem, I would ask for forgiveness. Well into my second year and nobody has complained. I am very well behaved with the bike. When I leave the road, I am a pedestrian carefully pushing my bike. I give staff and patients a wide berth. Plus my office is on the main floor fairly close to the outside doors.

IMO the OP should read his rental contract.. Unless it specifically bans bikes from apartments, he should tell the small minded guy to buzz off.
