Not offended, but not knowing the movie, and seeing my name referenced, my reaction was more like "Huh!, What did I do?"

Meanwhile, I'll leave the demands for rephrasing to people who think that way.

#9 , in glass? Can next time, and something hoppy? I'm sometimes a slow learner. Scars all over my body from combining 2 of my favorite pastimes while in college. Now, pedal first, then a cold one, always in that order. The solution might be a session beer, ones with less than 5% abv.

Oh yeah, I've done that. More often, it is in a cooler for the post ride, but if it is an easy ride, I'll bring one along. Our local advocacy group does a free wing and beer night once a month, there are a number of bike and pub crawls, and during bike to work week the same advocacy group got 2 kegs too many for an event, and had a "kick the keg" party on Friday. After enjoying a few pints with friends, I filled up a spillproof coffee cup I had and off I went (on my bike, 12 miles to get home). In reality, you probably won't get pulled over for cycling while being tipsy. It's a lot more responsible than getting in a car. You aren't going to run into a car and ruin other peoples lives.

If you don't want to mix beer and riding, don't mix it, but don't expect everyone to agree with you, as I am sure there are people here who won't agree with me.

I do agree a can over glass bottle next time. Luckily, lots of good beer is now being packaged in cans!

So, just to be clear, you are dismissing scientific research on the benefits of moderate alcohol consumption, correct? Just making sure...

You nearly had me convinced that you weren't a quack there for a while. Not so much anymore.

I guess it worked.

Maybe you can come up with something similar for the two keeping the thread alive.

No. But I do regularly dismiss awkward rationalizations... even when they attempt to include science. I have no affection for MADD (I didn't think they were still around). But there are many "users" that continue to make their use... part of the public risk. I don't really understand why.

So then you have another's ideology? What are you getting at? Here comes the undecipherable esotericism.

Ok let me try to make as clear as I can for you:

Your argument: All drinking is bad.

My argument: All drinking is not bad, based on simple biological facts such as etoh dehydrogenase production, body weight and gender.

Your retort: Nope, all drinking is bad and you're addicted to alcohol.

My reiteration: There is generally accepted, scientific evidence that drinking in moderation is beneficial.

You are now babbling about awkward rationalizations. Where did I ever even imply that anything more than moderate drinking is ok? You are rationalizing your own personal thoughts on the matter (ie, personal ideology) by dismissing my giving you scientific reasons why moderate drinking is ok. And that means I'm putting the public at risk? What in Dante's hell are you talking about??

Sounds like my kind of club ride!

In fact, that last organized ride I went on was a Brewery and Brew Pub Tour that involved tasting at each venue and lunch at a nice brew pub. It was pretty sweet.

The clubs I ride with are in a pretty good sweet spot between serious riders and partiers: I have to work to keep up with the strongest riders, but we don't take ourselves too seriously either. This being Iowa, the rides tend to ramp up in distance and intensity until RAGBRAI, after which they become more leisurely and festive.

Enjoying a cold beer or two, after a hard 60 mile ride,
is a reward for putting in the work. I am loving IPA's especially
Coronado Idiot IPA, and Arrogant Bastard. Delightful!

I wish....

As regards enjoyment of beer, I'm lucky, there are quite a number of good breweries in my area--Parkway Brewing, Roanoke Railhouse, Sunken City, Soaring Ridge, and Devil's Backbone. My wife and I can walk to Soaring Ridge and Roanoke Railhouse. We're partial to a number of the local offerings, for sure, and the local restaurants within walking distance that we frequent carry a good selection of the local stuff on tap.

Hard to tell from some of the posts above that this thread is supposed to be about BEER. I know that the euros sometimes make good beer, and they sometimes drink it a bit warmer than I might prefer, but in my experience the right kind of good beer is best served cold, so I prefer to keep it as a post-ride recovery beverage. However I must confess I'd prolly have some mid-ride if I was offered something other than swill. Below, ladies and gents, we have a picture of the right kind of good beer:

This is where I've started hanging out with other cyclists for their monthly happy hour:
Capitol City Brewing Company - Washington's Best Brew Pubs

Unfortunately, the Scottish-themed beer that I enjoyed this month is not on the online menu - it's one of the seasonal specials. Only $3.50 per glass during happy hour.

I hadn't realized you were a studied "drinking scientist". Or would that be a drinking expert? Maybe a drinking intellectual? What do they call you at the local bar?

I would probably like one, but I fear it would be really foamy after riding up on the gated logging roads. Or on the pretty little trail pictured in the OP. Maybe you could find a palatable wine in one of those flexible little cartons that would transport better. Or put wine in a water bottle.

If that was champagne in the bottle rack of the second bike pictured, I want to watch that be opened. From a safe distance.

Huh? So what about the person whose ideology you use as your own? Wouldn't your logic mean that their ideology, and thus yours, are made up? You're digging yourself a philosophical hole here, one in which nothing makes sense the deeper you go.

Ok, let's review your opinion on the matter:

So at first you make the claim that drinking alcohol is not bad, then you go on lambast those who "think that way" and start going on about your personal opinion on the substance. Note, I said opinion and not fact.

Ummm, thanks? I just keep up with medical literature, I am no scientist. I don't have a name at the local bar, I've only ever been there once for a burger and don't care for the place. The last time I drank in a public establishment was with dinner, and the waiter referred to me as my name appears on my driver's license.

Look, I get it, you don't care for alcohol and you don't care for people drinking alcohol. Good on you. All the rest is babbling on and on about nonsense. Especially the parts where you eschew scientific evidence and claim to have no personal ideology. You're a quack.

Also part of my recovery drink after a hard ride.
