Clipless pedals on women's hybrid
I am super new to this forum. I am doing my first "Super Sprint" Tri in a few weeks. I bought a bike and love it, but it is NOT a tri or road bike. It is the DAWES ECLIPSE 3 from Bikesdirect. It's a hybrid and actually looks like a glorified beach cruiser, but has 24 gears, and goes super fast. It is very lightweight too. I do spin class at the gym regularly now for many, many years so I am used to clipping in. Would it be okay to put clipless pedals on this type of bike? I also am a little worried about how I will look on this bike at the tri with this bike. It goes fast though so my time should be good! Thank you for any advice!

Yes you can put clipless on your bike.
If you are going for speed, perhaps you can put thinner, high pressure tires on.
Getting as aero as possible, while still being comfortable will make the most difference.
If the course is flat, and not very long, clipless won't make a whole lot of difference, and may slow you down in transition. Get some practice beforehand.

I'd say "GO FOR IT" both with the race and the clipless. I've done a few marathons. There are those that finish in 2 hours. And those who don't. I have a lot of respect for anybody that gets across the finish line, no matter how they do it.
I like the SPD pedals because inevitably I'm doing errands and some walking around when riding.

Not to be a dream killer, but what is your definition of "super fast?" I am just curious since after looking at the riding position of that Dawes, it is far from anything close to aero.

Oh my! I bet those weigh close to 40 lbs.
do you use clipless in spin class?
The event only being a few weeks away, I'd probably not go with something you've never used before
