Is it a bad time to buy an E-bike right now?
So I'm looking at some Haibike models and I've decided on the 29" hardtail and I've found it for $3500.
My question is, is it stupid to buy an e-bike now in the USA since in a few months the new Bosch and Yamaha motors are coming out, both with better specs (especially torque)?
The 29" Yamaha 29" hardtail is going to priced at around $2500.

Ask a mod to move this for you. Past history here seems to indicate little or no interest in e bikes beyond that subforum.

ANY product which uses new/developing technology is going to become obsolete quickly. And also, early adopters always pay a high price ($$$) for jumping right in. I might consider an eBike in the future, but considering how expensive they are, I wouldn't buy one right now, because not far down the road, the prices will likely drop dramatically; components and standards will become more universal/standardized; and the bikes will seriously improve.
I wouldn't want to have been the guy who bought a PC in 1984 for $10K, which had about as much power and memory as a wristwatch! Or the guy who paid thousands for a cell phone which was bigger than an old rotary-dial phone, and had a separate battery, the size of a briefcase! If you're an early adopter, youi basically have to endure inferior products, and pay a premium for them- and then a year later, when you expensive item is ridiculously obsolete, you have to get another one, and there is no possibility of selling the old one, because brand new ones that are 5 times as good will be selling for a fraction of what the obsolete one cost.
Me? I'll wait until it looks like the technology has matured and stabilized- i.e. when they are not coming out with ones that are SO MUCH better every few months; and when the prices drop and stabilize. I'd imagine that point will be coming pretty soon....so try and hold on a bit more.
