IMO almost any shoe mfg could make a lot of money if they made wide cycling shoes. I have a very high instep and wide foot. To be comfortable I need a EE width shoe. Todays so called "wide" cycling shoes give me hot foot pain after 30 or so miles. Just saying they are wide is BS. What some of us need are shoes that actually measure E, EE, and EEE.

I may be mistaken but I seem to recall that there are ways to add clips to regular gym shoes. You might lose a tad of efficiency due to flex but you would still be attached to the bike.

What a wonderful opportunity to start your own business. Have you looked at something like Sidi Mega width shoes?

I wear a EEEE width shoe, my Sidi Genius Fives don't just say "mega" width, they are wide construction, and fit me quite comfortably. They have several types with their "mega" designation, if you would take the time to check. Also, have a pair of Specialized Road Pro, that are the wide width' plenty of room in the toe box and over the top portion, as well. If the arch is a problem just get an insole that is correct for you particular anatomy. Specialized Body Geometry, and Dr. Scholls athletic specific insoles are two I use regularly. Seek and ye shall find....

I have pretty wide feet, have found Specialized BG fit fine, Shimano shoes are generally are a bit narrower. As with all shoes (and other bike clothing) try them on, as each manufactuer has a different opinion of what a size is.

Shimano makes some of their shoes in a wider width.

I use the older SM 087 and SR 087 mt. and road shoes, have EEEE feet and am comfortable.

I usually wear a 10.5 EEEE. My Bontrager Velocis in 44 wide fit fine.

I still dont understand why some cycling shoe mfg cant make and sell shoes in real sizes and widths. As I have said before I have bought shoes that claim to be "wide" and it is a hollow claim and just plain BS. As I stated before not only is my foot wide, but I have and extremely high instep that demands a wide shoe.

I have not tried all the brands listed, because I dont have the money to blow on false claims.

Shimano in the standard width hurt my right foot. The wide version is OK though. I guess only my right foot is a single E.

I would be willing to bet that most of the people that get wide shoes that fit have a size 10 or larger foot. I wear an 8 1/2 EEEE, don't no one make a wide enough shoe for me, I've tried on every pair that I can get my hands on. Sure go up a size larger they say, then my cleats can't be positioned in the correct spot and I get foot pain in another area. Time for a pair of custom Bont shoes.

Shimano Click'R CT80 Bike Shoes - Men's - REI.com This is a nice wide shoe and very comfortable. I also have wide feet with a high instep. Often I need to buy shoes one size or more larger. The clikr is comfortable even with heavy wool socks.

Since you havent tried any of the shoes that are specifically marketed and listed as wide shoes --- you should not have any complaints.

Your going to have to order a few pairs from a place that has a good return policy (PErformance, maybe Colorado Cyclist ) - keep the pair that works and ship back the rest

As well, expect to unfold $250 bucks --- wide shoes for cyclists are a specialty item as a club footed Clydesdale is the exception, not the rule - in our sport. Trust me, i know -- i wear an 11 4E in street shoes , and at 4E, going up to 11.5 doesnt even work ---

As another member stated, Sidi Genius Mega shoes are the real deal

I was able to find an acceptable fit in a Shimano mountain bike shoe (SH-XC 51W ) for the trails also, -- i used a size 46, which is a euro fit 11.2 and this was close enough without being too long and at half the price of the Sidi Dominators

-- You live in Nebraska , not exactly a bike centric state, so my suggestion of mail ordering 3 or 4 pairs to try may be the only way to go

Well then buy them from somewhere that allows returns. Or find a LBS that carries them so you can try them on. (It's not like you live in East Jabip.) Or keep complaining. It's up to you, but I don't think the last option is going to solve your problem.

I wear 13D or 13E dress shoes depending upon the last and Sidi 6.6 mega in a 48 are just wide enough and a bit long (grammatical errors for the pedant)

I'm going to really go wild and speculate there's not enough demand. Companies make what sells and gives them a profit. There must not be enough potential buyers to justify producing, distributing and stocking that size.
