Sounds like you've found something that works well for you and probably for many others. The fact that you can pedal along with your buddies is obviously important to you and this gives you that. It's great that they accept you with your new wheels. You're also having all that fun you have on the dunes, etc. and you indicate you're getting a good work out. I agree with you. It's a win win situation.

Times changed a long time ago pilgrim, and we decided mopeds are silly things.
But since it's fun to be your own motor once in a while...

A fatbike is nothing like a moped.
Only money keeps me from owning one of these.

I don't think anyone who has posted here has said that fat bikes are (like) mopeds. Fat bikes with some kind of electric motor built into them, however, most certainly are a form of moped. Doesn't really matter how one tries to dress that fact up -- they are a form of motorized transportation.

Look, "Badger", a fatbike is nothing like a moped.
If you had experience with either or if you even knew what the **** you are talking about in general I'd like your argument.
But you don't.

As as far as e-bikes go, I'll get one when I am so old and grey and my legs are what limits me from getting where I want to go adventure.

I sometime see an older guy (I am not young myself) on an electric assist bike on the MUP. I'd say the man is his mid to late 80's.
I first thought, when I first saw him was.... aren't motorized vehicles banned from the paths? But he seems to be getting some exercise, having fun, and doesn't bother anyone. So more power to him!
I can see myself on a trike (maybe a recumbent) and/or a power assisted bike... someday. But for now... I love my road bikes.

Badger1 is right in saying that eBikes have nothing to do with cycling, except that a (probably small) proportion of riders like the OP will switch from pedal-powered bikes to eBikes.
But eBikes are likely to have more on an impact on reducing car use than any other recent invention. Nothing wrong with that.

I see what the problem is. I live in Southern California, the birth place of some very cool stuff. People write songs about where I live. So, since this is the beginning of this trend I can see where those that don't live here don't understand what is happening.
Yesterday, I saw 8 e-bikes on my evening ride after work. This is the most I've seen in one day. Guess what? The riders weren't old and decrepit. Just the opposite.
I understand the reluctance of "pure" cyclists to embrace such a bastard machine. From all of those that so adamantly voice a NO the reasons are pretty thin tho. "We go for exercise", "We don't care about going fast" - that one made me fall out of the chair laughing, these are just motorized forms of transportation - that one is true.
So, if you go for exercise - what does that have to do with an e-bike? Just dial down the assist and pedal more.
We don't care about going fast - really? I live to go fast. I race everything I have and go as fast as they will take me. Hell I'd even go fast on a kids tricycle. As for those not willing to be honest with themselves, answer this - what kind of bike do you ride? Is is a road bike? is it light? is it high tech? composites? alloys? carbon fiber? guess what - you like to go fast.
How many of the NOs ride beach cruisers? Hey - if you want exercise you don't need all that fancy gear....
Truth is folks - I'm just one of the trendsetters here. I saw 4 other fat e-bikes on Saturday's ride. People gather around my bike when I park it and strike up conversations with me about how cool it looks and is it as fun to ride as it looks.
I get it - you just bought that fancy carbon fiber road bike and the last thing you want to find out is it's going to be surpassed by some chubby girl on a fat ebike.... you won't care, you're not out to race anyone, or go fast, you're just getting your exercise.
As for the mo-ped comparisons, the 'mo' is for motorcycle, not motor. the Ped is pedal start. I had a mo-ped in the 1970's - it had 12" wheels - and if you pedaled as fast as you could you would go about 4 miles an hour. So let the mo-ped thing go.
The main point I attempted to make with this thread is that there is a new breed of bike out there and it is a very good, safe and fun addition to cycling. Adding a motor to the fat bike made it as easy to pedal as my road bike. The fat tires make it incredibly fun and agile. Since we all love bikes here this should be a great news.
I'm not saying YOU are going out next week to buy a FAT - E-bike but what about your neighbors? They see ya all decked out in your kit pedaling down the street and say that looks like fun but I don't like those skinny tires. As for mountain bike enthusiasts, the tires keep getting larger and larger and what? 4 inches is now turning into 5...
Keep the rubber side down folks.

I pedal this bike the same as you do yours. the motor is an 'assist' not the main power source. So whats up?

"The standard pedal bicycle has seen it's day. Electric bicycles are going to take over. NOT just any electric bicycle but ELECTRIC FAT TIRE BIKES."
That claim, if it turns out to be true (it will not), would in effect be the end of cycling. Motorized transportation devices -- whatever their merits, 'fun factor', blah blah blah -- are not devices on which one engages in the act of cycling. They are not "additions to cycling". They are just a different form of motorized transportation/recreation.
Glad you like your new toy; have fun. By the way, there is (for reasons I cannot fathom) a sub-forum on Bike Forums just for you and others who share your enthusiasm. Perhaps go over there from here on in and talk to other like-minded non-cyclists instead of trolling those of us who actually like and participate in cycling?

No, that (bold above) was not your initial/main claim. Your initial/main claim was this:
"The standard pedal bicycle has seen it's day. Electric bicycles are going to take over. NOT just any electric bicycle but ELECTRIC FAT TIRE BIKES."

You have NO RIGHT TO TELL ME WHERE OR WHAT I CAN POST!! I am fully in my rights as a member of this forum to post a bicycle thread in the General Cycling Discussion.
The bold above was a dumbed down version for you. Cycling is evolving - cave man walks upright!! Super cool & fun to ride fat tire e-bike become the number one seller in the USA. Canada is still years behind... Are there any tour winners from Canada?
My bicycle is pedaled the same as yours. Your "hater" problem is knowing I will have more fun riding my bike. It has better handling, better braking, more access to different terrains, be able to get to work and not be all sweaty, get my exercise, cut down on air pollution and on and on....
NO MATTER What your OPINION means to you - The many others here that enjoy news and events find this entertaining and informative. If you have such a problem with this thread then YOU shouldn't be littering it up with your input.
Websters dictionary defines "cycling" as:
: a set of events or actions that happen again and again in the same order : a repeating series of events or actions
: a set of regular and repeated actions that are done by a machine as part of a longer process
: a bicycle or motorcycle
My bicycle is a step in cycling's evolution, a hybrid that falls into more than one category - correct!!
Does that mean they are not going to take over? F- NO.
I see things that most don't - so what if I give a heads up.
I stand behind every word I write with experience and 4 decades of cycling mastery. I've been a professional bicycle mechanic in more than one retail LBS over the years. Things that happen on my bike trail - trickle down into the world of cycling. Where did mountain bikes originate? Marin County California.
The company that makes my bike - Orange County California.
I ride almost daily thru "Surf City USA" Huntington Beach, California.
I can't say I remember hearing about cutting edge cycling tech coming out of Ontario Canada. As for songs or new trends California Knows How To Party!! Ontario??? cant say I hear any lyrics about it down here in the states... where all the cool cutting edge ship happens.
Sorry to all the others here for my rant - I can only take so much from TROLLs.
