winter.....
Well, its winter. Snow is on the ground, trails have ice on them. Some people are brave to get on their bike and endure the cold. I for one aren't. The cold does a number on my joints and my lungs which is very unpleasant. I find myself daydreaming of the time when the weather warms up and I will hop back on my bike and enjoy the warm sun and the fresh green leaves and grass.
Now thats done. my questions for you all, what do you do to keep yourselves busy/fit during the dim, dull, frigid season of the year (for us Canadians, and resident of the northern part of USA, not only that also for Scandinavian countries.) and how to keep yourselves sane and not go insane?

1) There's a winter forum if you want to keep cycling ... Winter Cycling
2) Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, spinning classes at the gym, weightlifting, running on the treadmill, swimming, long walks, doing commercial intervals on the trainer, yoga, and of course ... cycling outside.
3) Travel to a warm part of the world. Just about every winter we go somewhere warm for a minimum of a few days and as long as possible. Even if it is just out to Vancouver for 5 days in early March or something.

Mount your bike on a trainer (like a Kurt Kinetic Rock n Roll or Road Machine) and ride listening to music or watching a video.

Mount your bike in a trainer and set it in front of the tv. Play Charlie Sheen interview videos as you ride. His frenetic energy is contagious.

The last few years, since being able to hook the computer to the tv, I will watch unedited bike commute videos while walking/ and jogging the equivalent length of time of my own bike commute.

I moved from Calgary to Edmonton a year ago. I go out and ride my bike. My daily commute is 25 km round trip. I'd go crazy waiting for good weather to be able to do the thing that's one of my life's passions.
As a world traveler I would of thought that you are hard enough to do the same.

Lifefitness stationary recumbent and a DVR driven flat panel in basement gym works well for me when wx gets really ugly. Ain't been on/reduced to it yet this season but getting pretty damn close now.

yeah, thanks for the suggestions.
Saddleup, well winter do not cooperate with me very well. The only reason why I love winter is when I hit the slopes for a day or 2 of skiing. Right now Im lucky, Calgary has been very balmy so far. But when it gets too cold, my joints creaks, ache, and I get cabin fever because i miss the greenery and the fresh air that spring and summer always bring.
