56-62cm Helmet sizing

I see bike helmets listed as size 56-62cm. Is this measurement the adjustability of the headband or the actual physical size of the helmet?

I think it's the hat size range so, yes, the adjustment range of the headband.

Try on the helmet first before you buy and make sure it is comfortable and something you will want to wear on your head. Sizing on the box is all well and good but nothing beats actually testing it on your head. Plus most helmets these days have some to quite a bit of adjustability. Even my medium Giro Synthe is super adjustable which is nice because I sometimes wear different cotton cycling caps and some have different thicknesses.

I would also recommend that helmet highly and would happily buy a second one in 5 years or so (or sooner if I unfortunately crash which I hope not to do) If you don't want to drop that amount of cash on a helmet try the Foray it is way cheaper but a very similar design and a few of the same features with just a little heavier design.

The reason for my question is I wear a medium size helmet (54-58cm).

And was thinking the 56-62cm might be too big for my head?

The helmet I was looking at was an online item from China. So wanted to be sure, as return ship charges could apply. Not a good thing when returning 3rd world items.

Don't be that guy who goes cheap on a helmet and ends up riding around wearing one that fits so poorly it is providing little or no protection. I see it all the time. Some people have their entire frontal lobes exposed because the helmet is too small. Size aside, shape can affect the proper fit of a helmet. Go to a shop and try different helmets to determine which fits you best size and shape-wise.

Buying that would be a very bad idea. I have no problem with quality bike stuff mfg'd in China. Be willing to bet, tho, what you're looking at is badly made junk that may offer about as much protection as a gimme cap. An acceptably decent basic helmet can be had at an LBS for $40. Brain surgery costs a bit more.

The helmet I was looking at is being sold and fulfilled by Amazon.

The same helmet/seller on Amazon with a face shield ships from China for about $38. Decent looking helmet.

I have a Bell helmet (M) size, that I tried on at Walmart, $30, fits well, made by a USA company, but made in China.

But then again, what isn't made in China these days?

Have to agree with brain surgery costs more than a decent fitting helmet.

I like the helmet just not sure how a universal size 56-62cm helmet would fit?

Looks like another trip to Walmart is in order to find out.

...lot of substandard and counterfeit be sold through Amazon
...looks don't mean nothing
...those two words be key. Properly fitted junk is still junk when head meets concrete/rock.

Legitimate, quality, built to spec, name brand products manufactured in China I don't have a problem with. Best advice is still go to your good LBS or at least somewhere like REI to look, try on, and buy. Helmets be a bad place to skimp to save 10 or 20 bucks.
