Old steel bridges don't get saved and restored like wood covered bridges. But they are disappearing fast.
From a few years ago. This bridge in northern Kentucky spans a creek, for a dead end road for just two farms. It was repainted and got new track boards.
A beautifully minimal structure.

Golden Gate bridge is getting painted and checked continuously ..
The US101 bridge is just coming out of a multi year upkeep session, [they have to lay off in the winter due to the stormy weather] .

I met an old guy at a campsite, trying to retrace a cycle tour he did as a teenager. He showed me a photo of his cycle group at a bridge. Knowing the local geology, stonework and rivers, I was able to narrow the location down to 3 possible bridges, and he went off to look for them.

Bridge near Pendleton, IN that had been moved several years ago to current location for use in a park. As of last summer, still waiting.

Not my photo. I love this bridge. About halfway across, there's a "No Fishing From Bridge" sign.
This one's mine; on the MUP on a local creek.
