Is it worth the money?

Hello! I came across this second hand road bike for £100. Looks to be in a good condition but can't seem to figure out if it's a good price or not. It's called GT ZR 3000

So, is it a bargain?

Do you have any tips on a low priced bike (less than £100) good enough to go ~10km per day

Look for an old 3 spd IGH.

Almost any bike that's not broken down is good enough to go 10 km/day.

That one is odd because of the mismatched wheels and we can't see the drive side or close ups to see if it's original. But it was a decent bike to begin with. If the UK market version was similar to the US version shown here then it might be the rear wheel that was replaced, which might mean the wheel (or the bike!) was stolen at some point.

If it is in good shape then that is a good price. But there is some potential for things to go wrong on that bike. If you can give it a very thorough examination, make sure there are no sign of cracks near any joint, that the wheels are round and pretty straight, that it rides ok without pulling to one side or somehow being weird, and it fits you properly (looks like a 54 or 56 cm (med or med/large size, so you would have to be around 5'10 or so), then it is a decent bike.

But even if everything is working there are likely going to be moving parts that are worn out or close to worn out - this is normal, but means you can't look at 100 quid (is that the right term?) as the last money you will spend on this to have reliable transportation.

Like has been mentioned above, however, a bike doesn't have to be perfect to ride 10 km. The fit could be off or little things can go wrong that you can just ignore, but you would likely be happier on a simpler bike that is more intrinsically reliable.

Heck! My bike has mismatched wheels. The LBS who sold it to me got fed up replacing broken spokes, deemed the original wheel defective and replaced the whole rear wheel with a different, beefier one, one under the warranty terms.

A mismatched wheel seems like a pretty trivial singular piece of evidence to worry over.

We can suppose all sorts of things, but without seeing it in the flesh we're just projecting our own negativity on it. Taken at face value, and assuming there's nothing seriously wrong (ie. bent downtube, wheels in bad shap etc) it might not be a bad deal at all.

If the OP is seriously inerested he should enlist a knowledgeable friend to accompany him to the purchase and review the specs and condition, and most important --- the fit.

Looks fine from here. On the smaller side, like 52cm ? , based on the intersection of downtube and toptube, for someone 5' 6" -ish ?

With any used bike, tires, chain and cassette will have some wear and need replacing sooner than a new bike.
