Stripping a wheel
When stripping a wheel, is it safe for spoke nipples to be exposed to paint stripper? I know there is usually loctite on the threads, will the stripper interact with that?

apocryphal sobriquet
I've never known Loctite to be used on spoke/nipple threads, though I suppose someone somewhere might use it for whatever reason. IMO you generally don't want the nipples that tight because you need to be able to turn them to true the wheel both when initially building the wheel and later when it inevitably needs to be re-trued.
I think paint stripper would be safe for spokes and their nipples. I would be cautious about getting the stripper around the freewheel/freehub though unless you are deliberately stripping it and intend to relube it later.

Paint stripping because you dont like the color and Logos?
Why Not just ride the Bike to get Places ?
I build wheels with anisieze because I do maintenance truing as needed ..
Others use a Wheelsmith Spoke Prep ..
its not a product of the Loc Tite division of the Permatex Corp.

I'm just stripping a wheel to fit a new rim. The spokes were a real pita to loosen. Must have had some sort of adhesive on them, but I'm only going to use linseed oil when fitting the new rim.
Can't see a problem with judicious use of stripper, but what do you want to strip on the wheel, the rim or the spokes, or both, and why?

Methylene choride strippers may react with aluminum so you may want to avoid it if your nipples are not brass. Of course the rims are probably Al too sp choose your stripper wisely. Are your rims painted or anodized. Paint strippers won't work on anodized rims, but oven cleaner will (and then you have a bunch of work to polish them back to nice)

Re-building my KHS Flite 100 that I crashed. Was thinking about stripping the wheel ,decided that I won't. It's just that is was red and silver would have looked way better with my new stronglight 2000 cranks and silver Thomson seatpost. Just have to wait for my Steamroller fork to get to the shop.
