Best cycle trainer?

I didn't see a specific thread for trainers. I am in the market for my first trainer. I would like it to have the ability to monitor HR, calories, speed, etc etc. What would be a good trainer to buy? I was looking at the TACX Vortex but I read some bad reviews and it doesn't fold up so it can be stored. What are some good trainers out there? My budget is under $1K. Thanks!

For $1000, get a $99 trainer to mount your bike, and spend the rest on heart rate monitor and power meter.

It's really hard to beat the KICKR for "best". It makes Zwift and Sufferfest absolutely fantastic.

Otherwise, check out DCR's latest reviews.

I took your recommendation and ordered the Kickr Snap trainer from REI. The reviews on this trainer with Zwift are amazing. I am looking forward to using this setup.

The SNAP is a half-step down, but should still be pretty good.

You don't even really "need" a powermeter. If used properly, and you ride often and intense enough and study the output for it to be more than "gee whiz" data...it can be valuable....but note those 4 conditions.

You don't need to blow $500-1000USD to get a good workout in and attain fitness.

There's really not much difference and I prefer to not take off my rear wheel, and the snap is lighter and has a slight smaller footprint.
