Comparing the 2016 models on Trek's web site:
- The 1.1 and 1.2 have different wheels.
- The 1.1 has 8-speed Shimano Claris shifters and derailleurs while the 1.2 has 9-speed Shimano Sora.
- The 1.2 has a slightly nicer crankset with aluminum chainrings instead of steel.
- Because of the component differences, the 1.2 is about two pounds lighter than the 1.1.
In a nutshell, the 1.2 gives you one more gear and is a little bit lighter.
