I wonder if these are too gaudy ... they've got multiple colours and words!!!

This one might be OK because it's grey, but it does have those bright patches on the shoulders ... oh dear!

Or these ...

We wore these symbolically, in celebration of my becoming an Australian citizen the day before ...

Who can help but laugh at people who wear Styrofoam hats when taking selfies? Or post pictures of themselves wearing such things

I'd be HAPPY if they poked fun at me. If they accepted me as one of their own, then I would worry. Generally, when people make fun of you, it is an indication that you are an individual, and are not some insecure idiot who feels the need to conform to some fashion, or rules commonly accepted by a group or population at large.

If someone makes fun of me, I know that I'm exactly where i want to be!

Not really, they only are proving they are snobs and probably have more money to spend on their KIT. Put any Cat 1 racer in blue jean cut offs and a white cotton T-shirt and they will leave the poseurs here in the dust.

They seem to all get a good laugh though.
From what I could tell. These guys were all decked out in cycling gear, riding "expensive" (at least they looked expensive to me) bikes...
Good lord, put some steel in your spine.

Yes, I'm not sure what the point of this thread is either (this one and the "Cyclists are Jerks" thread) ... what did the OP expect to accomplish by posting it? Was it just to stir us up? Or if not ... ???

tl;dr of this thread - It's wrong to make fun of cyclists based on what they ride and/or wear, except for those arrogant poseurs in their funny lycra outfits and their expensive bikes.

One of THE BEST cyclists in our area rides an old Schwinn Le Tourll with baggy shorts and a t-shirt. He can smoke 95% 0f the population of other cyclists. Cloths & bike don't make a cyclist and mean nothing compared to what kind of engine you have!

your fixation with other people's attire and spending habits is peculiarly odd.

I've got one guy on our weekly group ride that is like that. He also appears to be obsessed and fixated on my legs.
Every time I have any little scratch or any little grease mark on my legs, he has to comment on it.
I just ignore him. It's really kind of creepy.
