I am all for people going outdoors and doing whatever they want to....EXCEPT blocking the path. Play your game, have fun.
Yesterday I came around a bend, and there were 3 teenagers, stopped, standing in the path, all staring at their Iphones.
Oblivious that they were effectively blocking BOTH directions.
MUPs may not be the best place for bikes in some cases, but in other cases, with highways and urban traffic problems, they might be the only place for a bike.
IF your doggy is peeing, step to the side. If you are texting someone, step to the side. If you are playing Pokemon, Waldo, or even Geocaching it is in your best interest and everyone's safety to yield to others, whether they be cyclists, other pedestrians, dog walkers, or runners.
This is becoming an everyday occurrence, and sometimes multiple times per ride.

Does anyone know if this game is active 24 hours a day? I saw a couple of groups staring at a smartphone in the park when I rode home Wednesday night at about 9:30 and figured they must have been playing Pokemon. We each noticed each other due to the lights, but I would guess that oblivious people wandering around in the dark would be even more of a problem than oblivious people wandering around in the daylight.

The MUPs are great. But the MUP in most cases are part of the parks system! These games are great for the parks!
But more people on foot... isn't so great for bicycles. Thank God.... bicycles work perfectly well in the streets too.

I've heard of one fatality somewhere in south America. Two teenagers got shot by the homeowner when they broke into a house and were mistook for a burglars. One of them died...Here in my area we had some guy taking a huge risk and walking around underground subway tracks with his face glued to his smartphone, lucky for him he didn't get hit. It's only a matter of time before more fatalities happen.

Oh, i'm sure Pokemon Go is so lethal it will soon be statistically significant. It only needs to kill 1,000 a year to pass "falling down stairs," 3,000 a year to beat out "choking," and a measly 20,000 a year to surpass "dying of sexually transmitted diseases" as a cause of death.
I'm pretty sure people playing the game have discovered more dead bodies than they've created. I'm personally at the statistical zenith for getting killed while riding a bike-- I'm the average age, gender, race, and located in the #2 state to get killed in while riding. Any cyclist who regards playing Pokemon Go as dangerous at all clearly has some misconceptions about the risks related to both smartphone gaming and cycling.

Yes, it's online 24/7. I've caught most of my critters between 2200-0200 since it's been 90+ with 80%+ humidity here lately. The bike trail is deserted once you get away from campus/ bar row and the pokestops associated with them, I have a 1300 lumen light in my hand ready to go if someone on a bike with no lights starts getting too close, I have a Planet Bike Superflash turned on to 'not seizure inducing' mode on the back of my camelback, and I've had no close encounters of any kind. This thread makes me think a lot of people are making **** up, or just generally get pissed off if anyone makes them slow down in the slightest. If there are people on the trail, I'm usually going to cruise by them at about 8mph after I ring the bajeezus out of my bell. Pokestops are placed in populated areas. You shouldn't be going fast if there are people close enough to you that you'll crash if they suddenly stop in front of you, for any reason.

That guy walking the tracks apparently was a "comedian" doing it as a joke to show how stupid people are or something along those lines. He's not even remotely funny and he did annoy a few drivers walking out on Yonge street and cars had to stop because of his idiocy.
Personally, I would have laughed if a driver got out and beat him for it, he would have deserved it.

Just returned from returning my grandsons to mom and dad in Ohio. I-75 has been undergoing a major upgrade since last year. Anyway, there was one of those big programmable signs used to warn drivers of conditions, etc. This one said, "Don't be one of those drivers. Catch Pokemon later".
Good advice.

kids have done that since the hoop and stick days. kids are kids. if there are kids around, you shouldn't be driving fast enough you can't stop if they dart across the road to chase a hoop, baseball, soccer ball, pokemon, or whatever is next.

Well, I had the (dis)pleasure of watching my first head-on bike crash tonite. Walking back to my car after a concert in Detroit on the sidewalk, two bikes hit head on next to me, with a phone with Pokemon Go on the screen landing on the concrete and totally giving away the distraction on one end. To be fair, both had phones and I couldn't see what the other was doing...
