Happy National Bike to work week all
I hope you all will be biking to work this week at the very least (if you don't already bike most days)

I want to, but have cold/rain forecasted every day. This would my first time commuting, so I guess I will pass and start when the weather turns nicer. If I had facilties with a hot shower I would consider it.

It was cold and rainy today, yet it was a beautiful ride!! When I got to work I was nice and warm from the ride, even a little sweaty. I toweled off and washed up at the sink as usual and was ready to start my day. This was my first ride with the new "messenger bag" I got from the Goodwill, I packed it full of clothes for the week.
I purchased a 7.00 rain suit at Target and it works great for the occasional wet ride.

Today was my first commute and it was beautiful. Its exactly 13 miles each way but at 5:20 AM there was almost no traffic to worry about and the temps were in the mid 40's. I had gone for a 60 mile ride Sunday and thought I may have problems this morning but was suprised that I felt really good. I was a little hesatent about riding to work this week with the distance and the fact I work on my feet all day but it was rather refreshing. I'll be commuting as often as possible now.

I do some what envy [and sometimes not] those that have multi-mile commutes to do on the bike, my commute on the bike is less then 5 minutes (I bike in when I am feeling lazy, and don't want to walk the 10 minutes, but it is nice I don't get up till 7 [some times as late as 7:30] am, and I get to the office at 8, I love flex time, I get off an hour early because of that or if I really want to push it, my office manager knows I do this and she is cool with it, I will skip lunch and get off 2 hours early, 3pm to 8pm is free time now, this gives me plenty of time to ride my bike, and get other things done at the end of the day.)

I was surprised to see that my hometown was sponsoring so many bicycling events this week. They are showing cycling related movies all week at the library, for free. They showed the Triplets of Belleville (sp?) last night. Sure there were bicycles involved, but it seemed to be as much about dogs and old ladies eating frogs as it was about bikes. Still I enjoyed it and thanked my hosts. Hopefully more people will attend as the week drags on.
Tonight they are having a meeting for Envision Spartanburg 2007. Our town's attempt to make this area more welcoming and safe for cyclists. I was pleased to learn at yesterday's movie viewing, that my area is one of many being addressed in the meeting. I'll definitely be in attendance.
Then this Friday is the Assault on Mt Mitchell and another race somewhere in downtown Spartanburg on Saturday. It should be easy to spot as our downtown is tiny.
If any of you have the opportunity to get involved with any similar activities, please do so. It was kind of sad to see the low turnout yesterday. Sure it was only for a free movie, but still you would hope more cyclist would get behind such activities.
Oh yeah, the ride to work this morning was great!

28 miles this morning. My employer is promoting the event. Got a free water bottle, gatorade, and granola bar this morning when I arrived at the company fitness center to get a shower.
