I think my LBS owner knows that while I'm always learning more about bicycles, my knowledge pertaining to hardware goes far beyond the basics. When I handed my cartridge bottom bracket back with less than 150 miles, he said they all feel like that after some use, but didn't hesitate to take it back. He knows I know how bearings should feel and sound. I purchased a spindle and bearings to go back cup and cone. Lo and behold, the noise is gone.

I still hear the tires, and I'm pretty deaf.

Deliberately? My Air Zound.

Otherwise, it's my freewheel, which is pretty noisy when coasting (though quiet when actually pedalling).

Do you have evidence or is that just a figment of your imagination?

My bikes make no sounds. None. Unless you count the wind dragging....

I have an odd metallic ping on occasion from my front wheel. I suspect some loose spokes that are rubbing together. It's rather annoying as it seems to only happen when it's hot and is very inconsistent.

I just built a wheel set with 23x700c by 40mm deep rims. I used to hear the chain contacting the aging sproket the most, but the resonance of those rims is profound. I do think the creaking from a standing start is more concerning though.
