Disc brakes are DANGEROUS! Can catch on FIRE!

Just a bit of click bait. I love disc brakes on mountain bikes. Found this video on youtube, thought it was interesting. The poster wants to try it again with a downhill brake.

Nothing new.

Destructive testing. Manufacturers do this all the time. I've been in the Ford Mustang plant where they put cars on a fixture and shake them until they fall apart.

Yeah, he's pretty hilarious. Those press videos are... I don't know... cathartic?

Sarcasm? I don't think anybody expected it to do anything to that lathe. The question is, I know lathes that big have brakes, so what do they use?

If you are not familiar with that YouTuber's other videos, I suggest you watch some... he specializes in destroying things with heavy equipment, esp. a hydraulic press. The battles between his equipment and the objects he is testing are never a fair fight.

I don't know, the ball bearing put up a good fight... Not sure if that was his channel specifically or not.

Oh, I agree it's funny. After the first round, it's pretty obvious the brake is totally inadequate for that application. So what's he do? Why, POUR ON THE POWER of course! Rotor was red-hot in less than 10 seconds. I'm amazed (and he was probably disappointed) the caliper didn't explode right away!
