I beat a motorcycle 50 years ago.
I was riding home from somewhere on Lincoln Ave. in Ames Iowa when I came upon two fellows who were riding double on a Honda 50. The passenger on the Honda must have thought that it was pretty funny because he was smirking. The driver, not so much.

Passing on the right is a dumb ass move. And, forcing someone to pass's on the right is also a dumb ass move.

I caught three motorcycles once in Big Bend Park.
Topping a climb I was passed by two Harleys and a Goldwing.
Now Going down I realized that I was gaining on the Goldwing.
It surprised both of us when I caught him.
Computer was not working. Guess the speed was about 45/48 MPH.

That happens in Grands Tours frequently .... bikes use less road, I'd guess because they have so much less mass and can thus stop and change direction more easily.
I'd be pretty pleased if I caught a motorcycle ... I guess .... can't say, because I have never passed anything.

Now if that was a climb, then I'm really impressed!
I was starting to descend through a series of hairpin turns on a mountain road one day, when I became aware of several big HD cruisers behind me. I tried to keep FRAP, but they weren't passing. Then I realized they didn't want to take the hairpins as fast as I was.
Having started riding a motorcycle again, I can understand.

I remember a few weeks ago, Majka, Nibali, and Henao beating a motorcycle, too. Didn't end up working too well for Nibali and Henao, though...

Racing isn't about who's going fastest, it's about who can cross the finish line first.

Never passed anything? Not even a McDonalds?

The few times I stop with cars at stop light, I'm surprised at how quickly I accelerate relative to them when it turns green. When a cyclist only has their body weight plus 20 or so pounds to accelerate, it gets moving pretty fast vs. a 3000 lb car. I'd like to see how fast world class sprinter could do against a drag car in a 10 foot drag race.

I'm a geezer and far from a world class sprinter and win the limit line to limit line race frequently.
Just physics.
On a steep mt down hill a MC and a bike are on almost equal footing. The real differentiator is that you can't accelerate out of a corner.
Big difference between 30+ and 1/3 hp there

Bikes can't beat motorcycles off the line if the motorcycle gives it a bit more gas. They're probably just riding in a reasonable way in traffic. Once I read here someone saying that bikes can beat cars off the line. I really don't think so. Bikes could beat a semi, but that's about it.
