UPDATE: What is a FAIR price?
Well, Koffee you wanted an update and I waited a day to let it settle so I would know what to say to my sister-in-law about buying the bike. When I called, my nephew answered. I asked him if he would sell it to me (since it is the bike HE won) and he said that he would think about a price. When I called him today I asked him if he figured a price and he told me that I should just take it because he is not using it and it's just hanging in the garage. I was so surprised! I asked him twice if he was sure and that I 'd be glad to pay him for it but he said "you're my aunt, you can just have it!". Can you believe it? Boy his mom will be mad, but I decided that I'll buy him a game for his X-Box in return. What a sweet kid.....

Wow, despite the odds, that sounds like your nephew is turning out to be a good kid. Try to keep him away from his mom.

very cool, your nephew sounds like a cool kid!
(hint) instrad of getting him an x-box game maybe you could buy him a new bike and take him riding with you! I know I was excited when my uncle and aunt asked if I wanted to go riding with them. And look at me now! Flat broke with three bikes and a crapload of gear

The only kind of cycling my nephew ever did was a short stint in BMX. His parents got him a pretty expensive bike back in the day. That led him into motocross. Actually, he is getting a bigger motorcycle soon - - I guess he outgrew the other one. I've tried asking him before if he'd liked to go but he just kind of smiled nicely and politely declined. Then he asked if I wanted to go motorcycle riding. Well, that's a 17 year old for ya...

You might want to get him something for his new bike, too or instead, since that way it would be sort of a passion swap. Just a thought.
As for the rubbing off fears someone posted, I'd say someone's doing something right over there if he's happy to give it to you.

Get him a nice new pipe from FMF for his mx bike. Even one from White Bros. would be alright.
