Wireless ID Settings?

I recently replaced the batteries in both my cycling computer (Cateye Double Wireless CD300DW) and my wireless sensor. This ended up reset the wireless ID to 11. And the result was interference up the wazoo. Apparently my usual 21KM ride was now 17KM. So I reset it last night and ended up with an ID of 10. No better since the ride was now 15KM (I seem to be losing mileage here). So this morning I futzed with it and finally got it to an ID of 1. I was curious, for those that use wireless in urban areas, what the best ID was with the least amount of interference? (I know I will get some since Wireless APs are common but I shouldn't be having this many difficulties)

Ahh, the joys of wireless. I take it that it's not recording speed from the inteference? Or is the interference giving you zero or very low readings?

Both. It seems to vary depending upon where I am. I gave up on wired because I kept managing to get the wired cut and couldn't get it to work afterwards.

Hrmmm... Well, it was better with the ID of 1 but not great. I'm still missing about a km and a half... I might just get a wired one again for the new bike. It's weird that this started up all of a sudden and rather frustrating.

Just an idea, you may be fighting two problems here. When you replaced the battery, did you go in and reset the wheel size value to be correct? If not, then that may be part of your problem, if you did, well, it never hurts to double check the simple stuff some times. The fact that it keeps changing readings based on the wireless ID would make me think that there is an interference problem someplace. I have no idea what freq range those things run in, or how they format a signal.

Oh ya. Double and triple checked that. They're ok.

IIRC, every wireless computer runs on 2.4Ghz. This means it will get interference from every little wireless hub, router, switch and cordless phone out there. What's weird is that last week I didn't have this issue and yet I'm doing the same route through a fairly populated area. The trick is to find a frequency (aka ID) that isn't as commonly used by other devices in the 2.4Ghz range (somewhat difficult and requires a bit of trial and error). Since it's split into 11 frequencies and the more common ones are 7, 10 and 11 I might be able to find some refuge in some of the others. Maybe 8 would be better...

When I first got my CE CD300DW, I was having interference problems and called the manufacturer. They suggested that a change of ID number might cure the problem. I reset to the next random ID number, and have not had a problem since.

I used to use wireless. I've had readings of 99 MPH. When my HID headlamp is on, the computer pauses. I replaced my wireless computer with a wired one. Once again, all is OK.

I also have a(Cateye Double Wireless CD300DW) have had now problems until 2 days ago. I take the same route ever day. Going to work in the morning it works fine. On the way home it stops reading speed. But only in certain areas. When I get home to see what the problem is it works great. I have not changed the batteries.

And?! What was the problem?

I had the same problem. I fixed that. I sent it back.
Not an option at this point for me. Because of the position of the sensor and it's proximity to my crank there's a little wear point on it. Plus I've had it for over a year.

Of course batteries need not be changed until the display starts blinking. Upper display blinks - change batteries in the sensor. Lower display blinks - change batteries in the display unit.

Solution: go to MEC pick up their db4l. Or their DB4LW (wireless) if you're getting adventurous. $15 and $22 respectively.

Huge multi-line display.

Do any of you own the db4LW computer? I wonder if someone can fax or email the instructions, I seemed to have lost those and need to set it up.

Thanks!

https://www.filzer.com/catalog.html --> choose the db4LW link and you'll see a link for the manual. ( https://www.filzer.com/images/dB/4LW-instructions.pdf ). You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open it (it's free).

Oh.. and some advice from a security geek. You really shouldn't publish your email address and definately not your fax like that. There are those that collect this kind of info to find out ways of taking stuff from you --- or worse. Just a suggestion however.
