That should do the job but I'd like something lighter and more compact. That one would really drag down a jersey pocket. Maybe carry it in a handlebar bag? Post a report if you get it, price seems OK.

Chuck,
Hopefully you're kidding. Any kind of gun is not a good idea. If you are serious then I'd recommend a cattle prod not a BB gun.
This:

Best to make friends with said hounds than to intentionally injure them. The law doesn't take kindly to shooting dogs. They just may take a different view of a cattle prod. Besides, a cattle prod will stop a steer in its tracks, a dog? It'll send any dog packin'.

Can of halt?
I am not sure I would want to be carrying a bb gun that looked so much like "real" iron. Probably not a bad idea to consider where the BB will be going when you miss.

I'm sure the OP is joking, but for anyone seriously considering a BB or pellet gun as a dog deterrent -- don't bother. It won't work with seriously determined aggressive dogs -- the types with a taste for blood and are determined to chase and bite.
Years ago I tried every non-lethal and less than lethal method I could think of to discourage a neighbor's dog that was killing our livestock. Animal control warned the owner, to no avail. BB guns and pellet guns did not faze the thing. Nor did a .22 rimfire. Nor did birdshot from a shotgun at close range. I finally had to get the sheriff's department and animal control involved together before the owner locked up his dog.
Worse, a cyclist popping off with something that looks like a firearm is likely to receive retaliatory fire from farmers and homeowners, or to be shot by law enforcement. John Crawford III was shot to death by police while carrying a toy gun in Walmart where it was for sale. Tamir Rice, a 12 year old boy doing what hundreds of thousands of American boys have done before, was shot and killed by police while he was playing with an airsoft pistol in a playground -- the police didn't even take a moment to assess the situation from a distance or to give the boy an opportunity to explain or drop the toy gun.
Last year my handlebar video camera picked up a couple of boys in my neighborhood running with an airsoft replica of a .45 ACP pistol. I recognized it immediately as a replica from the orange tip. But I wondered whether these boys were endangering themselves merely by playing with a toy gun.
I don't carry a firearm while riding and don't plan to. I don't object to it and I know of at least one cycling friend who does carry. I just choose not to. But I might begin carrying pepper spray (probably the gel type to avoid scatter).

At least where I live, in the Socialist Republic of California, BB guns are classified as a firearm.
That's right, use that in city limits, you are discharging a firearm.
The classification includes AirSoft and slingshots.

I bought some Sabre pepper gel spray for agressive dogs. I haven't had to use it... yet.

Yeah, I think if you annoy Brutus the 100 Pound Pit Bull with this you may regret it. And Brutus' owner may see you and return fire with his Glock 21 (that's a .45 caliber bullet that weighs about 230 grains at about 1000 feet per second, compared to your .177 pellet that's about 6 grains at about 800 feet per second). Or the police may see you shooting from your bike and conclude you're whacked out on something and may feel the need to terminate your activity.
Just read in the paper today that the cop that shot Tamir Rice lied on his application to the Cleveland PD, and had "dreadful" handgun scores, and he was fired. That knowledge probably doesn't matter to Tamir's family. It certainly doesn't help Tamir!
I shoot, and I support American's right to bear arms, but I think we need to get away from the idea that all problems can be solved with more firepower.
